See, the public demands pictures! You can't blog, hey I got a puppy, and not show us! LOL
Re: Karen *updated with puppy photos!*
LOL! I'm loading them onto the computer now. She's a mutt, and she's colored like a Border Collie, but she's going to be heavier and broader. The folks who gave her to us say her mom is an Akita/Blue Heeler mix and the dad was an Akita/Huskie/??? mix.
Scott is nervous of the Akita part of all that, because they're dogs that need strong leadership. But right now she's very, very gentle and really behaving better than our Blue Heeler/Border Collie mix Maddie did at that age.
And all those breeds are working dog/herding breeds. So I expect her to be herding the kids. But that's kind of what I hoped for. When we're out in the yard, Quinn tries to sneak off every time he thinks we aren't looking. I could use a little help keeping him from striking off for Alaska.

OH!!! I cant wait to see!!
I have a purple healer and a blue healer. darla (the blue) is much calmer than Duke (the purple) But both love to kill a cat.
I wouldnt worry about the Akita part, and huskies are so protective! I cant wait to see her!!

Re: Karen *updated with puppy photos!*
I do have cats, so I worry about that. But Maddie won't chase some of the cats (the tame ones plus a few that she's friends with that I am not) and hasn't killed any that I know of. I'm thinking the puppy will do OK on that front since Maddie should teach her. I'm still trying to get my computer to load the pics. I had them all loaded and then did something and they disappeared.
Re: Karen *updated with puppy photos!*
my old dog (duke) will kill one outside, BUT if I bring it in, tell him its his baby then he wont. He will play with them, chase them, run from them, etc.
BUT, Darla chases my inside cat She barks and the cat runs, ?? . and when she hisses and runs, Duke chases her too. They havent ever caught her. And I dont know that they even really TRY to catch her. But they do make a hellova mess when they do it.
On the other hand, the cat hasnt even checked out the chickens.. I kid you not. She wont even go to the boys room. cause she has to pass the chickens.
The dogs are kinda interested, but the cages are enclosed. Now they do stand at the hog pen and bark. Duke knows pigs, But his trainin has went out the window in his old age, especially since we havent had anything like that for years.

Oh she (?) is adorable.... I want one, lol. I can't though, hubby says he'll leave if I bring any more pets in our tiny house... even though that last one was HIS idea.
Re: Karen *updated with puppy photos!*
She is cute, isn't she. We're thinking of naming her Cupcake. But nothing is set in stone.
Zoe is crazy in love.

Adorable! She looks like a Cupcake.
I sometimes wish I had a buddy for our dog. Everyone here has allergies to pets, cats much more so than dogs, so I have to be happy (and believe me, I never thought I'd be able to have a dog at all so I really am happy) with our one dog. When I was young we always had lots of pets all the time. At least one cat and one dog, plus assorted turtles, gerbils, fish, hamsters, chameleons, hermit crabs, a rabbit...and usually kittens, too. Don't get me started on how much I miss kitties.

Re: Karen *updated with puppy photos!*
All my animals are outside animals. I have way bad allergies. But our winters are usually OK for outside animals if you take care to put out fresh water and food and make sure they have shelter, plus we look for breeds that have thick coats.

Saige just saw your avatar. She says happy good puppy day to ZOE'S (only) beatifulous puppy.
Re: Karen *updated with puppy photos!*
Oh what a pretty puppy, but I think all animals are adorable (except those nasty buzzards & oposums!)

Re: Karen *updated with puppy photos!*
Oh she is beautiful! One of ours is a lab/chow/blue heeler mix.
Funny, but I don't see the Akita in her or the momma (that is the momma in the pics right?).
They do say Akitas have a mind of their own and can be tough to train. They know what you want from them, but they like to do what they want, I have heard.

Re: Karen *updated with puppy photos!*
Actually, the other dog in the picture is my dog Maddie. They look very similar, don't they? I don't see much of the Akita in her either, so we'll just have to wait and see how she takes to training.
