I'm cracking up, I had the terrible urge to post "What's Redbox?"


(I was the small-town hick who butted into a past thread asking what it was all about and I got the idea that you all are tired of explaining it. I don't want to push anyone's buttons today, so... ...but )

I know what Redbox is, but I have never rented anything. Looked in passing, but not rented. How do you use the codes? Is there a place to type it in or what?

I live in a small town too , I just never took the time to actually fool with it. I was too busy trying to get into Walmart and out quickly to really stop.

I couldn't be more rural Lori, and we have them. There is now one in the WalMart and some at local grocery store chains too.

I look every time I go in there, Honey. LOL I look high and I look low but I still haven't seen one. I'll ask my son. If they don't have them in Grand Rapids we probably just don't have them here yet.

Lori, I just caught up myself. Price Chopper got one about 4 months ago and now they are all over, lol. Most are outside though and it's flipping cold. Therefor I send hubby to PC to get it inside and have never actually done it myself to tell you how Buzznut but I can say it hubby can figure it out, I am 100% it's very simple and self explanatory. He did say you have to put in your email the first time.

They are usually located ouside the front doors, or just inside them.

Redbox is a DVD rental vending machine, kind of like a big red coke machine with a touch screen. Renting a DVD costs a buck a night per movie, but they give out free codes at least once a week (Mondays) and twice a week this month (Mondays and Wednesdays).

When you walk up, you will see a screen with two big boxes (rent a movie, return a movie) but down in the corner there is a small box that says rent with a promo code. Touch that, put in your code, then a bunch of movies you could rent come up. There are several screens of them that you can look through. Pick the movie you want, add it to your cart like online shopping, then check out. You will be asked for a credit card (in case you don't return the movie the next day). You HAVE to have a credit card even with the free rentals. Swipe your card and it goes to a screen where you can have the receipt e-mailed to you. You do NOT need to enter an e-mail. If you don't want a receipt e-mailed to you hit no thanks. Then your movie pops out the side. Easy as pie.

If you want more than one free movie, use the same code on different credit cards. Be warned though that free codes are almost always on weekdays so you may not have time to watch them before they are due back. If you don't return them by 9 pm the next day, your credit card(s) will be charged a dollar. Plus if you rent something and don't watch it, it may mean that the movie is unavailable to someone else who wanted it since they have a limited number of each movie.

You can return the movies to any redbox location, not just the one you rented from.

PS. If you don't have the reciept e-mailed to you, you just don't get a receipt. They can't print anything out.

I know the one for this week is above, but where do you find the codes?

You can search online, or just sign up at their website and they'll text it to your cell phone each week.

But they only text the Monday (and this month Wednesday) codes. They don't text the freebies that are good any day of the week.

Yep, we have 3 or 4 of them in my little hick town.

But I have never done the free code. I always forget. LOL

So I go into Walmart yesterday - the door by the groceries, since I only need a couple of things, and what do I see? Yep, a big red box sitting in the entry. I couldn't believe it! I thought you made this Redbox thing up!

Woo Hoo!!!! Nopw that I discovered it- I LOVE it. Even without free codes, a movie for a buck? Sweet deal. Be sure to tell us what you think... there will be a free code tomorrow. Our Walmarts don't have them yet, but I always see special codes for free rentals from Walmart's Redboxes.
