Picture of Wynonna's quilt...
One of Wynonna's classes this year is quilting...she just completed her first quilt ever, which she presented as a present to me. It turned out really nice..and will be a family heirloom to be passed down as the years go on. We are going on Sunday to purchase more fabric for her to complete her second project which will be a full size quilt.

Re: Picture of Wynonna's quilt...
That is great, especially for a beginner. Took me years to be able to do that on my own.
I broke down and started a log cabin this week, I am hand sewing it, since I don't have any of my sewing machines anymore....soon though, very soon.

Re: Picture of Wynonna's quilt...
I was quite impressed with the job she did on it, she also made a long skinny pillow with fabric that matches the backing fabric, and is going to be making coordinating pillow cases as well. I can't wait to see the next one she does.. we already have ideas for the fabric.. I have made a couple quilts myself, but it's been over 10 years...my sewing machine I had bit the dust and I haven't bought a new one yet. Wynonna has been doing her sewing at school, and at my moms. If she is living home on her 18th birthday I would like to buy her a sewing machine. If she moves out on her b-day like she is planning, then I suppose my money will be spent on buying her things for an apartment on her b-day (yuck!)

Yeah, this one she made for my bed (queen size), the next one she is making is twin size. I never thought she would enjoy quilting as much as she has..but she seems to be taken with it..

Re: Picture of Wynonna's quilt...
She did a good job, Kelly! Did she buy yardage, or did she use fat quarters? It's so rewarding to finish a big project like that and see what you've accomplished.

Re: Picture of Wynonna's quilt...
Makes me think its time for me to do something like this again... hate the spread we have in our bedroom... well like the design, wedding ring and the colors, burgandy, dark green and cream... BUT we have a CA king mattress, in a waterbed frame... so no quilt top is ever big enough...
So with the one I have (it has a scalloped edge), I made and attached a burgandy quilted fabric skirt... looks crappy, doesn't hang right.
So maybe it's time to find a new pattern, oil up the sewing machine and get busy. Gosh, thanks Wynonna for the urge
Now, anyone have a web site with great patterns? (that are free to download)

Re: Picture of Wynonna's quilt...
Wow! I always wanted to make a quilt. She did an awesome job. Maybe this will be something that you two can reconnect over.
Re: Picture of Wynonna's quilt...
lol yes, my son is holding up the other side, but didn't want me snapping a pic of him, so he hid...
Lori, she raided my mom's material stash for 4 of the fabrics, the rest I had to buy a yard here and a yard there. Except for the back which I needed 8 yards of (she had enough of it leftover after to make a long skinny pillow.
Karen, we've been getting along for the most part, we just see things so differently (no suprise at her age). Some days I am ready to throw in the towel and other days I try to have the patience of a saint. I have come to the conclusion that I will do as much as I can do and if she does what she wants anyway then I will atleast know I tried. It's a very hard age. When she gets about 25, then she will start going the other direction and start to see things from my point of view. I know that was around the age that I started to really understand my mom's point of view.
Anyway, yes it's a wonderful thing for her and I to spend time doing together sometimes. I will have to try to get a sewing machine to replace the one I had.. I think though that I would love to make baby quilts for the local hospital. How nice would it be for a new mommy with a low income to recieve a special baby quilt to wrap their new baby up in to bring home? I would love to make and drop off a few every so often for that purpose.

Ohh that is absolutely beautiful! I love the outside edge, it looks like snowflakes.
Re: Picture of Wynonna's quilt...
Thanks Connie! We went this weekend to buy the material for her next quilt (which will either be twin or full size) the one she made me in the picture is a little over a queen size, the next one she is determined to make for her (choke) boyfriend...

WOW, it's stunning! I showed my 12 year old daughter and she's in awe. She'd LOVE to learn how to make a quilt, so she was definitely impressed!

Re: Picture of Wynonna's quilt...
Thanks! She cut out and sewed the strips for the quilt top of the next quilt she is making. Tomorrow she will sew the strips together to make the quilt top. This one is fairly simple as she has other things she is doing as well and didn't want to make this one as time consuming as the one she made for me, so it is just 7 in horizontal strips sewed together that make up the design and they are all prints and will be arranged by color. We bought a plaid which will be the border fabric, the plaid is green, navy, orange , gold. The strips are oranges, blues, and green prints in that order with the orange strips starting at the top. I will take a pic and post it when she gets that one done.
