Re: My sister needs to have her gall bladder removed!
Another update on her.
She is still in the hospital. Her enzyme levels are still a bit high, so they want to keep her in. She's hoping she'll be out tomorrow, but it will depend on her bloodwork results.
Oh, her SIL had a gall bladder attack and last I heard she was in the hospital here. They all found it hilarious (not that she had an attack and is in pain) because what are the odds that they both landed in hospital for the same thing a week apart.

That is quite the coincidence. I hope all goes well and she is released tomorrow.

Re: My sister needs to have her gall bladder removed!
I have had a c-section and a hysterectomy....those were a breeze compared to what I went through with my gall bladder.
I had my problems before laporascopy became popular, but I wouldn't have been able to have had it anyway. I had a stone to lodge in the common bile duct. I spent 11 days in the hospital, and let me tell ya, I wanted to die. I was getting demerol shots every 3 hours, and they were wearing off in 2.5. They couldn't find the stone, and I had test after test, before surgery. They ended up doing xrays in surgery to find the stone. I turned a golden yellow before surgery, and the day before I was scheduled, I went to get a shower, and about puked. I could not look at myself, even the whites of my eyes were yellow. I was in surgery for 6 hours. I was finally released from the hospital, and then got an infection in the bile duct where the stone had been. The doctor got mad at me, cuz he wanted to put me back in the hospital and I refused. I ended up going back to the hospital every 12 hours for IV antibiotics for a week. That medicine (can't remember now what it was) was very nasty. I had to take something to drink with me, because I could taste it once it started into my veins. It was a metalic taste. I have a 9 inch scar for my battle too.
I now do not recommend anyone putting off having gall bladder surgery..if they tell you it needs to come out..DO IT!

I haven't talked to her yet, but according to her MSN, she is finally out of the hospital! Thanks for thinking of her!

Re: My sister needs to have her gall bladder removed!
Im glad she is finally out! Gallbladders can be such a nightmare depending on the person.. I suffered for two years with mine.. when it finally hit the point that I drove myself to the ER in the middle of the night and BEGGED for whatever the most potent painkiller was (and I even knew the name, think it was percocet at the time).. I finally got to see a surgeon and get it removed.
Had the surgery on a Friday and was back to work on Monday (laproscopic and I worked for an understanding doctors office).
My eldest DD just went through the same thing and there truly is no worse pain that I know of... I would go through Childbirth 20 times before going through gallbladder attacks even once again.. mostly because you at least KNOW it's going to end.
