What's making me happy today. Empty What's making me happy today.

Post by thebigscott Sun Oct 26, 2008 2:20 pm

I just cleaned out my deep freezer. It's not been cleaned out completely since before Quinn was born. There was stuff in there I'd completely forgotten about. We spent the whole morning on it because it had a huge amount of frost built up. So now it's empty, all the nasty stuff was thrown out, and all I have left to do is to put back the stuff we're keeping. About three quarters of the stuff got tossed. Most of it was from when my MIL had done up a bunch of corn on the cob and froze it, but even though Scott and I tried and tried to get her to just barely cook it, she boiled it forever. We'd tried a few of them but they were just nasty so I tossed almost all of it. And there were lots of opened bags of frozen veggies that had freezer-burned. Now I finally have room to stock up on the foods we actually like and eat!

So this post has nothing to do with anything, just that I'm happy that I finally finished a task I'd been putting off forever.

Reminds me that my freezer needs to be defrosted. The funny thing is that when it's near to empty I never remember to do it...lol

No way! My current plan is to never clean it out again. When it gets too nasty, I'm going to buy a new machine and throw the old one away with all the stuff still in it.

We have the wonderful chore of putting the plastic on the windows today.

Tim let me sleep in while he put some stuff along under the windows and by where they lock together.

I am taking a quick break, but we are now at the putting the plastic on and using the hairdryer to smooth it out. I can feel a difference already, and we have only gotten the kitchen done. Still need the LR, Timmy's room, and the master bedroom.

I still have to do the windows, Missy. But it's not cold enough yet that I'm worrying about it. It can wait until after Halloween. I still have to make Quinn's costume!

Post by wtr27513 Mon Oct 27, 2008 11:14 am

These messages reminded me that the small chest freezer that my Mother-in-Law gave to us a little over 30 years ago after she had used it for 5 or 6 years just died on us last week! It was the best freezer we have ever had and I know that the replacement freezer will not be anywhere nearly as good as the old one was! My husband complains because each and everytime we build a new house which means buying all new appliances, I always want and get the biggest size side by side available at the time and it has to come with crushed, cubed ice and water on the outside of the freezer door. Anyway he said not a thing that is a decent size will fit on the shelves of either the freezer or the refrigerator! I'm shocked he hasn't replaced the freezer yet. Too bad the freeze had to break I missed having a second refrigerator in the basement (or garage depending on where the house was built) and almost had him talked into buying one. Then this morning the television in our bedroom broke so he took the new one out of the guest bedroom until he can replace the one in our bedroom, the one from the guest bedroom is too small to please him! What about considering our guests?! What else can happen and or break?!
Thanks for listening to my complaints!

Post by Nyssa Mon Oct 27, 2008 11:46 am

I've gone through a rash of things breaking down or just plain quitting lately too. My Kenwood CD player lights up, but doesn't go around, the combo DVD/VCR eats tapes, my fridge works but makes the worst banging noises when the compressor stops you've ever heard, and on and on. I've got two lawn mowers and can't get either of 'em started. Even my flashlight hates me. I can't get the back unscrewed to put in new batteries!

I envy all of you who have room for freezers. I'd *love* to have a small chest freezer, but there is no where to put one short of hanging it from the ceiling. And there's no electric outlet up there. lol

Meanwhile my weekend and continuing project is to play musical chairs (so to speak) in the kitchen cabinets to try to put things I might actually use where I can get to 'em, put things I rarely use in places they're hard to get at, and try to squeeze room for other stuff that is currently in the attic (and therefore unreachable in overly hot or cold weather) that would be useful to have handier such as my blender, food processor, and crock pot. My beautiful (discontinued) good china is up in the attic in boxes unloved and unused because there's no shelf or cabinet space for it.

Oh yeah, what's making me *happy* today? Hmmmmm. My sweet kitty, Squirt, is curled up in my lap snoring and keeping my lap nice and warm. Smile

I am happy today because :

The Disaster trash people cleaned out my front ditch

The travel trailer is moved with no incidents( I had my doubts for a while), and is in it's semi permanent place until the new house is built.

The builder told me we are really only looking at 4-6 months, versus the 9-12 he told me last week.

The windows I picked are available in different sizes than they first told us, and the sizes i wanted.

I have a brand spankin new fridge and deep freeze and washing machine, way way better then the ones they replaced, and will eventually go from the garage to the new house.

I spent the morning at the credit union, moving money around, my favorite activity.

Barbie, Nyssa... I've got my fingers crossed that nothing else breaks.

Meanwhile, what's making me happy today is that I finally got started on making Quinn's costume (a mummy) and it's going very quickly. Even though it's last minute, I won't have any trouble getting it done before Friday.

Oh, and I figured out how I want to dress the little one's next year. I want Zoe to be Little Red Riding Hood and then dress Quinn as the wolf. Or rather, as Zoe says, "a woof!" I made a cloak as part of Caly's costume, which is what put it in my mind, and it was super easy to make. Put her in a dress and add a basket and I'm done. So the only thing to make or buy is a woof-suit.

Nothing Sad I think I have food poisoning. I woke up at 12:15 am with the worst stomach cramps I have ever had that were not followed quickly by a baby. It hasn't gone away yet. I thought last week was bad.... this is far worse. Luckily I am the only one..... I think, the only thing I ate that everyone else in my house didn't was my MIL's chicken soup. I hope they are all okay but I don't have the energy to call.

Aww Tara, sorry to hear that. I had a bad case of food poisoning once, when I was pregnant with Wynonna. It was bad enough to go to the hospital for. I am so glad that I haven't had it happen since. Hope you start feeling better!

What's making me happy today, is that it's warm today (well warm for this time of year) even though they are expecting snow for us sometime this week. We had a few inches last week and that melted away with the excessive rain we had over the weekend.

My husband keeps asking me why we had a 3800 Sq Ft custom house built for the two of us when we moved here along with our two kittys and none of our children. (who are all adults, boy do I miss them! I'm not embarassed to say sometimes I still cry about it and actually feel guilty for leaving them behind. None of them actually lived in our house in North Carolina, two lived in their own separate homes in the same city one the oldest is in one of our other hometowns of Fairfax, Virginia.
Our house here has a great room, family room, formal living room, formal dining room, kitchen, breakfast room, 3 and a half bathrooms, mastersuite, laundry room, three additional bedrooms and a full basement including a 3 car garage! ..and with my illness I can no longer clean a darn thing, I'm not even allowed to cook or be near the stove when it is on in case I fall! The house is on 2 acres and we also put in an in-ground pool for my therapy, this year my husband finally put a heater in the pool!

Hey, Barbie, with all of that room you've got there, can my kitty and I move in? LOL!

I've only got a 1400 sq ft house (and no garage), and it's packed to the rafters with stuff. And I can never seem to find what I want when I need it.

At least my kitty likes it here.

I am happy today that my husband seems to be ok, or better at least. He is a contractor and one of those guys who never gets sick. Yesterday he breathed in fumes from a shower sealer and became really ill. His helper called poison control, who told him he would fine. Last night he was so sick, I had my doubts. Thankfully he seems to be better today, but stayed home from work. If he actually stayed home form work, he is NOT even close to well yet, but I think he will live (not trying to be dramatic, but I was really worried!).

Wow, Honey! That sounds awful! I'm glad he is recouping and I'll say a prayer for a full and fast recovery.

Today I'm happy that I got my coupons organized last night, and that things seem to be settling in a bit more with all the school activities. Life was so hectic for a few weeks and we all kept catching colds. But I feel like it's starting to turn around a bit and we're slowly getting caught back up on all the stuff that we put off.

That is scary, Honey. I hope they don't plan on using that shower sealer again. If they are expected to work with noxious substances they should get hazard pay plus the most up-to-date protective gear available.

Well, I am happy that I have a ride for next week, when the person that has been driving me to Timmy's school goes out of town.

I am happy because they just might know of a junker we can get for cheap until we have more money saved for a better car. Just something to get from A to B to C... because D and everything else is a luxury.

I am happy also because some other family members are helping us out too. Sure, it's advice, but hey, I need it right now!

I am also happy to know that my family is so tight-knit, meaning the Tim's and I. We really had an enjoyable evening. Just relaxed, ate dinner and watch tv together.

Also, I am happy because Timmy is eating more. He has FINALLY eaten carrots and mashed potatoes. He tried them Saturday, and today was asking for more mashed potatoes! This is coming from a little boy that wants to eat nothing but candy and crackers. lol
