Outlander Series Empty Outlander Series

Post by amybeccaz Tue Jul 08, 2008 7:39 pm

I didn't exactly pick this book out to read. My girls are in Highland Dance, and their dance teacher told me "You MUST read this book, it's excellent!". Well, 900 pages later (and a month too), it's pretty good, but very graphic. I turned it back in to her, and she had found me almost the entire series of this couple at a garage sale for a quarter a piece (hardbound too!). So, I think I have plenty of reading material to last me the rest of the year.

Anyone else read this series? I think it's by Barbara Galbrado (???)

Outlander Series Empty Re: Outlander Series

It's a historical romance, in short. It's about how a woman who lives in the 1940's, is on a second honeymoon w/ her husband in Scotland, and somehow she touches this circle of rocks, rumored to have these magical powers, and is thrown back into the 1700's (time travel). There she gets captured, and meets a man who she falls in love with, etc. I thought it would end w/ that book, but I was wrong, there's an entire series of it all.

It's different. I haven't read a romance novel like this one since I was a teen.

Hmmm... I never really got into the romance books. I wonder why their teacher thought you'd be interested?

Their teacher is 100% Scottish, and so the background of this series is completely Scottish history. That's why she suggested it. Plus, we were talking about books we loved, and she said this was her absolute favorite, then shoved it in my hands before I realized what kind of book it was. LOL

Diana Gabaldon is the author. Absolute must reads for any historical romance fiction fans! My 85 year old mother is a huge fan of these books! She's got another one, An Echo In The Bone, coming out in 2009, which will be the 7th book in the Outlander series.

I don't consider myself a "romance novel" reader but I love this series. Very well written.

Almost done w/ the second book .... sadly, I don't have the 3rd book, so I've got to go look for it. This time, they're not in heat as much, and the author isn't very graphic when it comes to when they do "the deed".
