What's your wallowing song? Empty What's your wallowing song?

Post by thebigscott Sun Jun 29, 2008 2:22 pm

You know how most times when you're depressed you want to be cheered up, but sometimes you really want to just wallow in your misery and cry and mope and play sad music and act like it's the end of the world? My kids call that kind of music wallowing songs. And we all have our favorites around here. Mine is Warren Zevon's Desparados Under the Eaves:

I was sitting in the Hollywood Hawaiian Hotel.
I was staring in my empty coffee cup.
I was thinkin' that the gypsy wasn't lyin'.
All the salty margaritas in Los Angeles,
I'm gonna drink 'em up.

And if California slides into the ocean,
Like the mystics say and the statistics say it will,
I predict this hotel will be standin'
Until I pay my bill.

Don't the sun look angry through the trees?
Don't the trees look like crucified theives?
Don't you feel like desparados under the eaves?
Heaven help the one who leave.

And I'm still waking up in the morning with
Shaking hands.
And I'm tryin' to find a girl who understands me.
But except in dreams you're never really free.
Don't the sun look angry at me?

I was sitting in the Hollywood Hawaiian Hotel
I was listening to the air conditioner hum
It went mmmmmm.............................

Look away..........................................
(Look away down Gower Avenue, Look away....)

What's your wallowing song? Empty Re: What's your wallowing song?

Post by Missy Sun Jun 29, 2008 2:54 pm

I listen to Cascada's version of What Hurts the Most (though the Rascall Flatt's version is just as good)-- this song makes me think of the 2 family members I lost suddenly within a month of each other last year. Can't believe it has been almost a year already...

I can take the rain on the roof of this empty house, that don't bother me
I can take a few tears now and then and just let them out I'm not afraid to cry
Every once in a while even though goin on with you gone still upsets me
There are days
Every now and again I pretend i'm okay but that's not what gets me

What hurts the most, was being so close
And having so much to say
And watchin you walk away
Never knowing, what could have been
And not seein that lovin you
Is what I was tryin to do

It's hard to deal with the pain of losing you everywhere I go
But i'm doin it
It's hard to force that smile when I see our old friends and i'm alone
Still harder gettin up, gettin dressed, livin with this regret
But I know if I could do it over
I would trade, give away all the words that I saved in my heart that I left unspoken

What hurts the most, is being so close
And having so much to say
And watchin you walk away
Never knowing, what could have been
And not seein that lovin you
Is what I was tryin to do

I'm not afraid to cry
Every once in a while even though goin on with you gone still upsets me
There are days
Every now and again I pretend i'm okay but that's not what gets me

What hurts the most, is being so close
And having so much to say
And watchin you walk away
Never knowing, what could have been
And not seein that lovin you
Is what I was tryin to do

What hurts the most, is being so close
And having so much to say
And watchin you walk away
Never knowing, what could have been
And not seein that lovin you
Is what I was tryin to do

Oh I've got a few but most are done by Bonnie Rait

Guilty - Bonnie Rait

Yeah baby, I've been drinking, and I shouldn't come by I know
But I found myself in trouble darling, and I had nowhere else to go

Got some whiskey from a bar man, got some cocaine from a friend
I just had to keep on moving, till I was back in your arms again
----
Well I'm guilty, yeah I'm guilty, I'll be guilty for the rest of my life
How come I never do, what I'm supposed to do
How come nothing that I try to do ever turns out right
----
Well you know how it is with me baby, you know I just can't stand myself
It takes a whole lot of medicine, for me to pretend to be somebody else.

Love has no pride - Bonnie Rait
1. I've had bad dreams too many times,
to think that they don't mean much any more.
Fine times have gone and left my sad home,
friends who once cared just walk out my door.

chorus:

Love has no pride when I call out your name.
Love has no pride when there's no one left to blame.
I'd give anything to see you again.

2. I've been alone too many nights
to think that you could come back again.
But I've heard you talk: "She's crazy to stay."
But this love hurts me so, I don't care what you say.

repeat chorus

If I could buy your love, I'd truly try my friend.
And if I could pray, my prayer would never end.
But if you want me to beg, I'll fall down on my kneews;
asking for you to come back...
I'd be pleading for you to come back...
beggin for you to come back to me.

repeat chorus

Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out - Eric Clapton
Once I lived the life of a millionaire,
Spent all my money, I just did not care.
Took all my friends out for a good time,
Bought bootleg whiskey, champagne and wine.

Then I began to fall so low,
Lost all my good friends, I did not have nowhere to go.
I get my hands on a dollar again,
I'm gonna hang on to it till that eagle grins.

'Cause no, no, nobody knows you
When you're down and out.
In your pocket, not one penny,
And as for friends, you don't have any.

When you finally get back up on your feet again,
Everybody wants to be your old long-lost friend.
Said it's mighty strange, without a doubt,
Nobody knows you when you're down and out.

When you finally get back upon your feet again,
Everybody wants to be your good old long-lost friend.
Said it's mighty strange,
Nobody knows you,
Nobody knows you,
Nobody knows you when you're down and out.

What's your wallowing song? Empty Re: What's your wallowing song?

Post by Jezzelle Sun Jun 29, 2008 5:51 pm

I love this thread!!! I have so many but here's some:

Leonard Cohen - Dance Me To The End Of Love

Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic 'til I'm gathered safely in
Lift me like an olive branch and be my homeward dove
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

Oh let me see your beauty when the witnesses are gone
Let me feel you moving like they do in Babylon
Show me slowly what I only know the limits of
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to the wedding now, dance me on and on
Dance me very tenderly and dance me very long
We're both of us beneath our love, we're both of us above
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to the children who are asking to be born
Dance me through the curtains that our kisses have outworn
Raise a tent of shelter now, though every thread is torn
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic till I'm gathered safely in
Touch me with your naked hand or touch me with your glove
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

The Breeders - Do You Love Me Now

If I saw you now
Could I look in your eyes?

Do you think of me
Like I dream of you?

Do you wish you were here
Like I wish I was with you?

Youve loved me before
Do you love me now?

Does love ever end
When two hearts have torn away?
Or does it go on
And beat strong anyway?
Youve loved me before
Do you love me now?

Come back to me right now!
Cmon cmon come back to me right now!

Cmon cmon come back to me right now!
Cmon cmon come on!

Youve loved me before
Do you love me now?

Youve loved me before
Do you love me now?

Frank Black - Garbage Heap

on the garbage heap at the edge of the town
how the flames do leap casting shadows around
have you seen my love? I know he is here
falling from above for so many a year

I'll stay here with you
I'll lay here with you
we're going to be here a long time

in the olive trees you showed things to me
you could not believe when I let you in me
dancing in the night there in Jerusalem
hiding from the light barely still one of them

I'll stay here with you
I'll lay here with you
we're going to be here a long time

John Prine - Speed Of The Sound Of Loneliness -

...what in the world has come over you
what in heavens' name have you done
you have broken the speed of the sound of loneliness
you are out there running, just to be on the run...

~~~~
Paul Williams - Gone Forever
...gone forever, I sit alone for hours
wonderin' what went wrong and whose is to blame
I was there to see a black cloud pulled across the sky
wonderin' when it was the love began to die...
Eric Clayton ... Tears in Heaven
would you know my name
if i saw you in heaven
would it be the same
if i saw you in heaven
i must be strong
and carry on
'cos i know i don't belong
here in heaven
would you hold my hand
if i saw you in heaven
would you help me stand
if i saw you in heaven
i'll find my way through night and day
'cos i know i don't belong
here in heaven
time can bring you down
time can bend your knees
time can break your heart
have you begging please
begging please
beyond the door
there's peace i'm sure
and i know
there'll be no more
tears in heaven
would you know my name
if i saw you in heaven
would it be the same
if i saw you in heaven
i must be strong and carry on
'cos i know i don't belong
here in heaven
I try really hard NOT to wallow. baby blue by George Strait will send me over the edge though.
and if I get upset, I put on some jimmy buffet. cheeseurger in paradise and MARGARITAVILLE cheer me up everytime. Then I follow it up with toby Kieth. and charlie danials.
BUT there is ONE song that makes me cry EVERY time I hear it. Even if I am in the best mood ever.
Teddy bear by red sovine. I have seen grown men cry at this song.
What's your wallowing song? Empty Touch of Grey
Post by shadyhillslane Sun Jun 29, 2008 9:39 pm
by the Grateful Dead (or any grateful dead really).
Must be getting early
Clocks are running late
Faint light of the morning sky looks so phony
Dawn is breaking everywhere
Light a candle, curse the glare
Draw the curtains, I don't care, cuz
It's alright
I will get by
I will get by
I will get by
I will survive
I see you've got your fist out
Say your piece and get out
Yes I get the gist of it, but
It's alright
Sorry that you feel that way
The only there is to say:
Every silver lining's got a touch of grey
I will get by
I will get by
I will get by
I will survive
It's a lesson to me
The eagles and the beggars and the seas
The ABC's we all must face
Try to keep a little grace
It's a lesson to me
The deltas and the east and the freeze
The ABC's we all think of
And try to win a little love
I know the rent is in arrears
The dog has not been fed in years
It's even worse than it appears, but
It's alright
Cows giving kerosene
Kid can't read at seventeen
The words he knows are all obscene, but
It's alright
I will get by
I will get by
I will get by
I will survive
The shoe is on the hand that fits.
There's really nothing much to it
Whistle through your teeth and spit, cuz
It's alright
Oh well, a touch of grey
Kinda suits you anyway
And that was all I had to say, and
It's alright
I will get by
I will get by
I will get by
I will survive
We will get by
We will get by
We will get by
We will survive
We will get by
We will get by
We will get by
We will survive
'nuff said Cool
Haven't heard it Scar, I'll try to track down a copy.
Cohen is just amazing. "Dance Me" was covered by the Dresden Dolls, too. A pretty version, but it can't compare.
Oh Chelle! We are SO alike.... Baby Blue is So awesome and I STILL cry over Teddy Bear... Red Sovine was just amazing! The song about the grass growing... oh my! Sorry I can't remember the name but it was one of my favorites.
My wallowing songs depend on what Im wallowing about.. One of my BIG ones is Alibis... I THINK it is George Strait but couldn't swear to it right now...
