Re: Bread
Oh, that sounds good. I may make bread later, too because I love the smell of the yeast rising. Yum!
Re: Bread
I enjoy making yeast breads as well, but today, it's whole wheat Irish Soda bread... no yeast. Real quick (or I wouldn'be be here already) but have to admit, the recipe I'm trying today is the first time... so not sure how great it will be. But we like all breads, so even if it's flat as a saltine cracker, I'm sure we'll ove it.

Re: Bread
I do a lazy man's yeast bread. Flour, yeast, milk. I don't even measure, just add more wet or dry til it's right. But it rises, and tastes decent, too.
Re: Bread
you guys make bread..im impressed.. my mil bought me a bread maker years ago for christmas..its still in the box unused..i thought about selling it on ebay but it would probably cost more to ship it than what i could get for it..

Athough I don't believe you get the theraputic workout with a breadmachine (as opposed to beating that dough with your fists and hands), bread made in a bread machine can be quite good.
Our daughter wanted a bread maker a few years back, bought her one, she didn't use it, got married, and her husband does! He loves using it and from what we hear, the bread is great.
So give it a try. Remember, homemade breads have no preservatives or artificial ingredients... so it's just go to be good for you... IF you spread REAL butter on it (not margerines!)

Oh I wish I could do that. I'm rather annal when it comes to recipes... I don't cook enough to get brave enough to just "wing it". Unless I've made something a whole bunch of times, I tend to "follow the instructions"
Boring, I know. But that's me.
Chuck on the other hand, OMG, he'll toss anything into the mix and usually comes up with something pretty good!

My dad gave us his bread machine and my husband latched onto it. His bread always turned out better than mine. He has the golden touch or something. It's broken now and I've made from-scratch bread once a week or so for awhile. W do miss the machine, though, especially my husband. He experimented with a lot of grains and textures. He loves his toast and likes his bread to have some body and texture to it. Maybe I'll surprise him with one for his birthday. Maybe I'll get one as a reward!

Re: Bread
ahhhh now, recipes are meant to be suggestions, only.
someone elses idea to be used to inspire you... set yourself free!!!!
I like kneading bread too.. and have made many loaves. In the summer I am more likely to use a bread maker,
to cut down on heat. When the weather is cool though... let me at the yeast and the rising bowl! yum!
I would rather have a good piece of bread and butter than a piece of cake, most days.

Ah, me too, I'll take bread over cake anyday... I do not like cake.
And as for soda bread... I'm going to open a new post for recipes... cause you said you'd like my potato soup recipe, and I would definitely be interested in "your" soda bread recipe....

My husband is our main chef... I'm the bottle washer. But on ocasision, I like to get in the kitchen and make a few things (my specialities) and he enjoys me cooking for him as well.
But although it might be his kitchen, I'm the one who keeps it clean. We have different standards of what clean means He's a Julia Child cook... assumes the prep cook an clean up crew will be right behind him, so matter how many pots and pans he uses to create a bowl of soup

I hear you. On the rare occasion that my husband does the cooking he's always so proud of himself...but I always have clean-up duty.
No really...it could happen...A bread maker is just a tiny step up from a crepe maker...right?reward? dreamer.... LOL

My Irish Soda Bread is smeling awfully good, and it's looking great (risen quite nicely) and has 7 minutes to go until -- butter up time!

This is a perfect description of my situation! Scott loves to cook, and is a much better cook than I am. I'm the clean-up crew. But it works well for us. I don't mind cleaning nearly so much as I mind not eating!
Re: Bread
You're all so ambitious! I haven't made bread since punching and kneading the dough in 4H. I actually made pretty good bread, but I don't have the time for all that now.
