See ya around - Happy Easter
I'm outta here for a day or so... am in the process of making a lemon pudding cheesecake, then it's on to the jello salad.
The last and big chore? Clean the house.
So ya'll have fun here today, post lots so there will be lots for me to read when I get back.
And may the (that's a poor depiction of the Easter Bunny) bring you lots of chocolate eggs (or whatever lights your fire).
Okay, let's be honest... you know I'll stop by and peek before too long... a working lady's gotta take some breaks

Re: See ya around - Happy Easter
well the cheesecake is out of the oven, and I swear that thing weighs in about 6# !
Jello just about set and ready for me to add the veggies (about the only way some kids will eat them, if it looks like a dessert!)
I love big holiday meals, and am very happy we have a family (neighbor family) sharing a meal with us. By the time I'm finished cooking tomorrow, we eat, and I clean up and send some food home with them, Chuck and I will still be set with leftovers for a week

Re: See ya around - Happy Easter
agreed! I love leftovers! especially turkey.. for sandwiches with lettuce and mayo.. yum
but any leftovers means no real cooking ...for a day or two

Re: See ya around - Happy Easter
Ham, I'm fixing a ham... a big sucker! So yeah, like turkey, makes for great sandwiches, and then we cut and package up a lot of it so we don't have to eat it for 5 days... but later, we can make omelets, beans & ham, ham sandwich spread, German potato salad, and so much more.
So if you're going to fix a large piece of meat, might as well do a really large one, cause the leftovers sure do make meal planning and prep pretty easy!
One bathroom to go (cleaning wise)... then time for "leftover" pizza. We went to our fav pizza place yesterday and always get a large so we have leftovers.... nothing like cold pizza
BTW, pizza yesterday, first I've had since getting my partial dentures... it was a challenge, chewing the gooey cheese. But have found out, that cold, hey it's a snap! Bring it on! I'm eating cold pizza tonight

Re: See ya around - Happy Easter
Dee you are an angel for posting that about pizza
I am just assuming that I will be able to eat nothing but yogurt and tomato soup
after April 1
both the dental surgeon and the lab guy told me it is so much better if the bottom is a partial denture aith at least a couple
of real teeth to attach to....much easier and much better
one week later they said it wouldn't work in my case...
can you imagine how that leaves me feeling?
oh well...

I'm going to open a new topic... I think there are several of us going thru the denture/partial thing now, and maybe we can help one another... I'll explain what's happened to me....

Re: See ya around - Happy Easter
Back to Easter Dinner.
Well our company just grew by 5 LOL
Went for my evening walk and stopped by a friends. Her hubby is in the AF and has been in CA since Oct for schooling. I asked Teresa what she and the kids were doing tomorrow and she said they'd probably go to Ryan's or the buffet at Holiday Inn. I suggested Ryans, better choice and a heck of a lot cheaper. And then thought about it on the way home.
When I got home 5 minutes later, talked to Chuck and he said why not call her back and invite them here... we've got plenty.
So I did. Teresa was just overwhelmed... "you sure you want my 3 kids in your clean house?" (they be 9, 13 & 16 - boy, girl, girl)... heck yeah, we've had them for dinner before and they're great kids, AND they know the other family that's coming as well.
So our gathering has grown from 5 to 10... and so there won't be as many leftovers, but that's okay, cause we enjoy these people and their kids, and they won't have to spend a day without family (even if it's surrogate).
I'm a happy camper. Now all I have to do is come up with a couple more chairs. My table sits 8, I have 6 dining chairs, but somehow will figure out how to squeeze in a couple more little ones ... and we can always use desk/cardtable chairs
Now if any of you are planning to come, please let me know before 6 tomorrow morn ing

Aww, that sounds so nice!
We're packing the van now, don't worry, I'm bringing the scalloped potatoes!

I don't know how to add... that's "grew by 4" Teresa's husband is the one in CA.. otherwise they are a family group of 5.
But since Rebecca is coming (yeah, like you could make it from Canada? if you could, you'd sleep all day and miss dinner), that would make it 2 plus what? (sorry Rebecca, I can't keep track of who has how many kids!)
But if you miss dinner with us (gosh those scalloped taters sound good... maybe we could hold up dinner a bit), I could send you a "virtual dinner"

I'm all for it, I think you could drop your dog off on the way... since you'd be passing right near (close to Louisville/Elizabethtown as I recall)... we don't allow dogs in this asthma, dog hair, cat hair free house... but all humans are welcome!
actually, when we lived in MI, we were the proud parents of two German Shepards and one very strange cat... all of whom we loved dearly, and after the last one passed away, we said "that's it" can't deal with losing any more animals, or the hair that comes with... and now we're 'hair free'
and now I'm going to bed
night

Re: See ya around - Happy Easter
Hey Rebecca, are you on the road to KY yet?
4 more won't crowd us! And as of this morning, we've added another 4. Another gal who's husband (helicopter pilot) is deployed in Iraq and her 3 children are joining us too. She asked what she could bring and I said your card table and chairs, please... the dining table is full up and I don't want anyone to have to sit on the floor!
13 of us now. That's 4 adults... 9 kids from 18 months to 16 years... well if it warms up, the kids can go outside and play badmitton. What an old fashion idea. Bet they've never even heard of it
So, is everyone having to peel their children off the ceiling this morning due to OD-ing on chocolate bunny ears and tails
Enjoy your day.

LOL! Well, the kids have convinced me to stay closer to home -- mostly by waking up really early to hunt for their eggs!

Re: See ya around - Happy Easter
That's good. Now I don't feel so bad for not dropping off the potatoes I was supposed to bring!
Re: See ya around - Happy Easter
Dee that was so nice of you to open your house to them! That's what these holidays are all about. Not the candy (though I'm not knockin' candy), but showing love and respect to others. What a beautiful way to spend the holiday. I hope it went wonderfully and with as little stress as possible.
Re: See ya around - Happy Easter
It was a grand day. We managed to get the card table set up in the kitchen/dinette area so we "all" ate in the same room!
One of the 9 year old boys said grace. It was so cute, and I had a difficult time not laughing. He was very serious when he thanked God for the chocolate Easter bunnies he got that morning, for the food at Miss D's, and that he was looking forward to Christmas. Amen.
After dinner, the kids all (except for the 16 year old gal... she was ready to join the old set) went outside, where we could watch them from the kitchen window, while we sat around and yakked, and got caught up on how their hubbies are doing, when they'll be home, and the neighborhood gossip.
At one point, I had to go out on the deck and ask the kids not to run thru the garden to get to the house behind, but rather just go around, 2 more feet out of the way! They promised they'd stay out. Well they saw the new little gal who had just moved in behind me this weekend playing catch with her Dad, so they ran enmass (by this time, two boys from across the street had joined the group) I can imagine what the Dad or the girl for that matter where thinking when a "gang" of 8 girls and boys cam running into their backyard (thru my garden - again )
They chatted a bit then one of the gals came running back anxious to report the new girl is 11, her name is Rachael and where she's going to school... so excited to have another girl so close to her age.
While the kids were playing, we decided to go ahead and dive into the cheesecake... OMG, that was heavenly. The kids could have cared less as they trickled in one by one, they spotted the white chocolate butterflies on the table and did me a big favor -- ate them all! Now I don't have to
It was a grand day. I do have some wonderful neighbors.

awe, you're making me blush
This is a special neighborhood I live in. It's a young subdivision. When my husband and I built here 7 years ago, we were the first ones to move in, when there were only 4 other "spec" houses. As homes were built and people moved in, I made it a practice to stop and introduce myself to each. I'm referred to as the Walking Lady, or some say, Street Walker ( )
Because we have some many military families here, being so close to Ft. Campbell, people come and leave after just a couple of years, Gets kind of sad at times. One of the gals who was here yesterday will be relocating come the end of the year, another has two more years here, and the newest, well, I hope she's here for a long, long time.
It's a pretty close knit neighborhood. We really lucked out when we found this place and decided to stay.
