Best thing since sliced bread Empty Best thing since sliced bread

Post by chelle Sun Apr 20, 2008 1:12 am

I just have to say that the BEST applience I have is my tea maker.

I had one years ago. And then just bought another the other day. I love sweet tea. Can drink gallons a day. But I cant make it. Seriosly. I can make any gravey you can think of, white, brown, milk, cream, redeye, I have NEVER used a mix. I even make my own Roux. I make homemade biscuts, cornbread, pancakes. Homemade yeast rolls and loafs of bread. I dont know HOW to use bisquick or cornbread kits. I make divinity and choclate peaunt butter drop cookies with NO problems. Perfect constancy every time. Real bannana pudding. NO jello mix. Cheesecake from scratch. My point is, I CAN cook. And do it pretty durn good.

BUT I cant make tea to save my life ( please dont try to teach me. others have tried. and failed.) so I just started buying red diamond tea. Its really good. and I love it for the most part. BUT there are times when its not good. its sour, or too strong. plus its high as a giraffes back. 2.00 a gallon.

So I broke down and got another tea maker. Since I want mine sweet I dont add the ice. just pour in 3 quarts of water, put in 3 bags, a cup of sugar and then when its done mix in 3 more quarts of water.

We go through about 3 gallons a day. I just cant belive how good it tastes. OH and I did switch tea. I started using louisanne instead of lipton. its less bitter.

I dont know how I lived the last 4 years with out one of these!

so what is your favorite applience. ?? and the microwave doesnt count tara!! Wink

Does the coffee perculator count? I love my coffee..

I love my bread maker too...but I think my crockpot comes before the breadmaker!

Right now, I'ld say my crockpot, but my coffee maker is a close second. I love my crockpot! I've only used it once, but so far so good. LOL. I used my old one all the time tho. I just need to get into the habit of using this one, and buying the seasoning packages again to have in the house.

Lipton is vile... I hate it.

I always use Salada if I make regular tea for iced tea. Other than iced
I drink herbal or red tea... sometimes white, or green, I like Earl green which is green tea with the bergamot , or red tea with bergamot a lot better than the black tea.

I have a tea maker too, but haven't used it in a while.. maybe I will bring it out this summer..

So if I gathered that right, sweet tea is iced tea, right? I just use a Tetley citrus mix and make that one glass at a time. I actually drink more hot tea than iced. Red Rose is my favourite, but I know you can't get that in the US.
My favourite appliance is definately my slow cooker. I use it all the time. I'm getting pretty good with it too -- it's the best way to make Swedish Meatballs! When I first asked for one for Christmas before I moved out on my own my mother didn't want to get one for me because she thought no one really used them. I'm glad my grandma got me one anyway!

well some folks get unsweet iced tea. BUt on the norm yes, sweet tea IS iced tea.

THats the only kind I will drink. Iced tea.

maybe its a southern thang Smile

Sweet Iced TEa. Used to be if you wanted unsweet you had to specifically ask for it. and really noone orders iced tea. YOu just order tea and it comes on ice Smile

But here lately some places have switched to unsweet, cause so many folks want nutrasweet or splenda or some such crap in theirs. and its IMPOSSIBLE to sweeten iced tea. you have to do it while its hot Smile

Yep, sweet tea is a southern thang! Our McDonald's is pushing their new Sweet Tea right now. I had a Free coupon so I got one. And let my son drink it. LOL The best thing about it to me was the copious amount of ice they put in the styrofoam cup. Oh, and the styrofoam cup was good, too. I have been using it for days to keep my water in.

Best thing since sliced bread is TIVO.

People drink iced tea without sugar in it? That's just wrong Best thing since sliced bread 26377 I drink hot tea on it's own, but that's different. Our McD's have always had iced tea, but now their coming out with iced coffee too. Tim Horton's increased their prices and I think McD's is looking to compete.

okay LOri, I was talking about things made by mere mortals.
Its obvious the DVR was sent down from the heavens and therefor could NEVER be put in the same catagory as a measly applience to make life simpleier , simplerer simpleler ( how the hell do you spell that?? ) easier.

The DVR/TIvo is a revolutionary device that makes life livable. you cant survive with out it. its like oxygen, and noureshment.

And I am NOT being facitious. I am DEAD serious. Smile

I've been wanting to try McD's iced coffee -- it's much cheaper than Tim Horton's. Now that you say it's good Kath I'll definately have to get one soon!

I get that here in California - not everywhere, but, quite a few of the "normal" supermarkets carry it.

The last Red Rose tea I bought was chosen solely because of the little figurine inside. I only have 4 right now (lion, giraffe, falcon, parrot) but I may as well get something free inside something I would buy anyhow, right? My MIL has quite a collection of these as she only drinks regular tea. I alternate a lot between green tea, herbal teas, and regular tea.

I tend to buy loose tea and brew it myself. I have a really cute brewer for it, that works really well, and the tea is awesome!

Oh, and I'm one of those crazy people who drink iced tea with no sugar! LOL! Though I have to admit, if I do that, I want one of the fruit flavored one's because they are naturally very sweet!

Loose tea is the best! I get some red raspberry leaf loose tea and some Earl Grey whenever I go to a specialty tea store about an hour from here.

My kids love mcd's iced tea, but I think it's too sweet. THe same with red diamond. It's okay, but I feel I'd get the same kick out of drinking straight from the syrup bottle. LOL Iced tea is all the we drink around here. Other than a glass of milk with dinner. Dh drinks so much of it that we make 6-8 gallons a day. We use instant tea though and NO ice and only 1/2 cup sugar per gallon. He refuses to let me buy any name brand mix though. He says that it doesn't mix right. So generic (Best Choice brand) it is....always. We go through 2 jars of it a week.

I don't drink McDs tea either... ack! too sweet.

Red raspberry tea has many healing properties Rebecca...especially for young women. I don't have it in as often since my daughter is living in her own home.. it is a lovely flavor though..

The best thing is my Kitchenaid mixer, I LOVE IT, would trade dh for it.
We drink alot of Tea also, DH prefers red diamond, but I make my own. I use Louisiane tea bags( lipton is just icky) or Community. I drink it unsweet however, and usually have to specify in a restaurant.

I also don't think I could live without Starbucks, my daily "Venti soy, Coffee, hazelnut Frappucino" is the best part of my day.

OK, I'm cracking up here. Have you ever heard of the Pearls Before Swine comic? My son was a barista in a coffee shop and there was a comic that was his absolute favorite. If you want me to I could describe it, but if you've read the comic you know which one I'm talking about.
