I am absolutely terrified!

Dh talked to our house builder this morning, we have a bid and a price for completion. They would like us to go in and sign, arrange, decide on plans etc. But I am Terrified! I want a new house, we NEED a new house, we have completely outgrown this one. I DO not want to bite off a note though, it scares the hell out of me. My house ia paid for, and has been for about 3 years, and I like not having a mortgage. SO I guess I am terrified, excited and scared all rolled into one.......I need tums.

I'm excited for you! I want a new house, lol. New debt should be scary, but it's good debt and the idea of a new, bigger and better house will trump that! Although I can understand- I wold so love to not have a mortgage.

Take a big breath.....and relax.. It is a little scary, but once you are in your new home you will be glad you did... Congrats by the way...

I think thats part of the reason I put it off so lng after the house fire. We had paid off our house. (worst thing I ever did. we had a flood in the house, ins fixed it and then found a reason to drop us. with out a mortgage there is no 'force' to make anyone insure you. )

getting a mortgage is VERY scary. but if its for something you want and need and love its worth it.

When we bought this house I was physically ill from the time we signed the papers for the offer until the time everything came back from the bank signed and sealed! I really have to give the guy I was dealing with at the bank credit though, he was very patient with me and explained things very well! We needed to move and I'm so glad we did -- I'm sure whatever decision you make will work out for you too!

I'm confused.. did you decide to build? or buy?

I think her builder will handle the foundation, putting the house together, doing the hookups, finishing the siding, getting the permits and inspections, etc.

Erin, let us know when you've chosen a plan so we can see it. Assuming that the company has its plans online.

Yes, actually we have chosen a plan....well, 2 actually. We will be making changes, adding windows, chaning a door here and there.
We discussed it at great length last night, and even though it is overwhelming, we decided it is like having kids, you can never really afford it, you just have to do it. It isn't that we cannot afford it, well, we can't, but we have to, we have outgrown this house.
This is the plan, sort of, it is not the right builder, but I like these.
