Re: What's your favorite city?
I am kinda prejduced. I really dont leave the state. LOL But, if I got an all expenses paaid round trip to the city of my choice it would be Las Vegas. Hubby took me there for our 10 year anniversary. (of course he was working in California and had to drive back to TExas so it was easy on him...)
I had a blast. And really the only gambiling I did was the quarter slots. And once we started seeing the sites we quit gambiling. LOL We were in awe. It was right after Sept 11 and the New York New York was so touching.
The belagio was doing God Bless America in the water fountains and grown men were crying.
And the pirates were killing each other. I just didnt realize what all I DID miss. I think I walked around with my mouth hanging open the whole time. I was in awe of the amazing talent of the builders, thinkers and performers.
Even if you dont gamble, its a trip that everyone should take.

Re: What's your favorite city?
Basically around 120 years ago the circus was in town. Jumbo the elephant was being walked along the tracks. At the time it would have been on the outskirts of town. Long story short, a train hit him and he died a short time later. Being the 1800s there was no way to preserve the meat so they had a bbq!
Since then a life sized statue of Jumbo has been erected along the main road into town. You come into town from the west. The elephant faces east. Yep, that means as you enter town you're coming up a hill looking directly at the back side of an elephant!

CHICAGO CHICAGO CHICAGO
If you grow up there, it is a part of you. Granted, I mostly lived in the burbs just outside the city, but that city is infectious!! Once it gets in you, your a goner!
I love the museums, Lincoln Park Zoo, Wrigley Field, shopping in Boys town (they have the coolest, strangest stores!) and down Michigan Ave. Belmont and Clark have the coolest stores, with the cutest platform boots/shoes. Soldier Field on game nights, are so much fun! The Bean! Millenium Park, with the waterfall faces... Being at Lake Shore on 3rd of July, The Buckingham Fountain is the best spot! Taste of Chicago..mmm..
I miss Chicago so much! I moved about 2 hours away just last summer, and up until 2 months ago, we went back at least once a month.

Re: What's your favorite city?
My traveling has been very limited. I have driven through NYC, never "visited" I have been in Chicago but never left the airport. The only two cities I have been to for any length of time are Toronto, Orlando and Denver. Nothing bad to say about either one. Denver is much closer to Aspen though and next to the Adirondacks it is the prettiest place I have ever been. I am a country gal... not much interest in city living. St Augustine was pretty cool.
Oh does Myrtle Beach count? LOL I loved it there.

Re: What's your favorite city?
I would have to say that my favorite city that I have actually been to is Godrich, Ontario. My Grandfather lives there, and I just loved it when I visited years ago. I'm a country girl, so I don't like big cities very much Godrich was perfect for me!

Seattle, Washington- lots to do and see. I love Pikes Market, the Space Needle, the Zoo and all the cultural events you can attend. Still have the feeling of the ocean though and I love to ride the ferry boats.

Re: What's your favorite city?
oh gosh, that's a tuffy. i've been in 51 of our 52 states, and probably have a favorite in each one... hmmmm, Chicago. No, er Minneapolis... wait, Mystic, CT... but then, Provincetown MA was a blast, particularly during a hurricane. Oh, and there was Cedar Springs MI... hey, they make red flannel underwear there (and believe me, you need it).
Guess I just don't have a favorite, I just love to travel and try em all !

Re: What's your favorite city?
Dee, I love Mystic, but Provincetown was quite possibly the worst place I've ever been in. Long, and now that I'm not there, funny story, but I NEVER want to go back.

I think what I liked about it was just how strange it was. Never expected in my life to be staying in a gay hotel.... just too funny, weird, and in a strange way, entertaining I mean Provincetown, not Mystic... we love that, especially having pizza at the place where the movie Mystic Pizza was about.... and actually, it WAS good pizza.

Re: What's your favorite city?
When I was in Provincetown, we were almost run off the road by a group of people who were snorting coke off the dashboard, we saw a little old lady try to run over a state trooper (or what ever they are called in Mass.), and I didn't know the sand was coral sand and we walked barefoot for about 3 minutes and realized so walked back to the car to get my shoes. Coral sand is very very rough. By the time we got back to the car, my the souls of my feet were raw and I was leaving bloody foot prints on the sand. But the kicker was that they wouldn't let me use the restroom at any of the local businesses. We stopped at a few gas stations and asked and they all said I couldn't and then finally I was getting desparate and was begging the clerk and he explained that I had to make a $50 purchase or use the ONE public restroom in the entire town. The chamber of commerce had pushed for an ordinance limiting restroom use of businesses so that people would spend more money. Only I didn't have $50. And I was in a big hurry. No time to drive to the next town or even the public restroom that was 20 minutes away. I started going through the car to see if I could find a blanket to wrap around me while I peed outside, and Scott went back inside and told the clerk that while I was a nice person and would pee in the grass, he was not and would take a piss all over the counter if they didn't let me use the toilet. So I got to use the bathroom.
There were other things we didn't like about it, but that was the worst part.
