My digital camera recently lost a digit. I will soon be purchasing another. Any recommendations?

It depends on what kind you want, Point and shoot? SLR?
As far as point and shoot I HIGHLY recommend Kodak Easy share, or Sony Cybershot...any of them. Bayley has a Kodak easy Share, 10 megapixels, and it is awesome, wnas was only about $150. I have a Canon sure shot, and love it, and Kristin has a Sony, and loves it.
I also have 2 SLR camera, A Canon Rebel ( 18 MP), and A Nikon D5000(12.3 MP). I love them both, but they are a lot more complicated than a point and shoot. I LOVE LOVE the Canon rebel, simply because the 18 MP goes a LONG way in making clear pics....but I hardly ever use either, because it takes 10 minutes to set up the camera for the shot, and then you lose the shot.

I have a Fuji S1500 bridge camera that I love! The auto settings work great when I'm just out and about with the kids and the manual settings are opened up enough for me to learn a little more about photography when I have some time to fool around with shots.

My 12 year old has a Nikon Coolpix, and WE HATE IT! Not sure if it's that she received a bad camera? But it's awful.

I have a Canon Powershot SD750, and it's a great point & shoot.

I also have a Canon Rebel XT that I alternate lenses on for my photoshoots.

So, it depends on what you're looking for, how much you want to spend, and what's important for you to have in a camera.

I agree with Erin, I have a Kodak Easy Share and love it....it takes great pics and I haven't had any difficulty with it or difficulty using it.

I have an Olympus I purchased in 03, only 2 pixels, good pictures, but the quality of Olympus is good (ready? paid 339)... the one I'm using now is also old, Cannon A720 with just 8 pixles.. inexpensive back in 2006 (195), but takes create pictures for my use, for web, sharing and even printing.

But I'm sure what's available today is even cheaper and many more pixles.

I would recomment a Cannon point and shoot, because today's probably comes with 12 or better pixels for a lot less than I paid 4 years ago...

But let me add, if I were really into photography like I was 20 years ago, I would purchase a SLR Digital. I still have my Yashica brass body 35 mil film camera (from 1979), and everyone once in a while drag it out, load it then have to have the film delveloped..... so much you can do with a SLR... just with mine, it means getting developed, then scanning, then playing with. I think the new digital SLR's can do as much, they are just a little (well maybe a lot) more spendy.

Choosing a camera all depends on what you want to do with it and the prints. Good luck.

Have to agree with Bizzeedee.. I so desperately want an SLR Digital... in the meantime I have an Olympus FE-20 My only complaint is that it uses a special memory card.. which my grandson got ahold of and lost...

If I had to do it all over again I would make sure my camera used a regular sd card or even mini sd card... cheaper and easier.

I had a Fuji Finepix & loved it. I decided to replace it recently with a Canon A480. I hate the Canon. It delays so long after you hit the button before it shoots. Sometimes it never shoots when you push it too. If you don't push it hard enough, it just lines up the shot - very frustrating! If you get a Kodak Easy Share, make sure you have room for the dock it has to sit in (takes up more room than a cord & some people don't like that). Olympus & Fuji use XD cards & all others use SD. That is an issue for some people too, like Connie mentioned.

Not all Kodak easy shares have a dock,Bayleys does not...most use replaceable batteries now. The newer ones don't even come with the dock anymore.
I LOVEd my Fuji fine pix, I had the S 5600, or something.Someone who never admitted it, spilled a glass of wine on my camera bag and said nothing, just let it marinate....it is toast. I liked the versatility, it used either XD or SD card, and the XD cards are much better quality.

Thank you, everyone. You folks are a walking digital camera recommendation book! I am not looking for too many bells and whistles. I will go to the public library and read the consumer reports magazine; see what it has to offer.

The camera we had, Fuji A345 (ancient) - the problem we had was it sucked up batteries. You could only take may three pictures and then had to changed the batteries.

Our new computer is not compatible with the ancient Fuji, time to get out of the dark ages and spring into fun!

Just want to add since edbson brought up batteries.. that really is a HUGE consideration that I forgot about..

My old camera used aa batteries and that was a huge plus.. the new one has to have the battery recharged in between uses which can be a pain.. so don't forget to look at the batteries and how you will be using the camera when it comes to them.

The Energizer Lithium batteries rock. I replace my batteries probably every 3 months, and I take ALOT of pics.
