Thanks everyone. Sadly, this year's birthday is kind of sucky. Not only is it rainy and cold out, Scott had a death in his extended family this morning. It's not someone he's close to, but his mom was quite close to the widow. The funeral is out of state and Scott's mom is not physically up to driving there alone. Normally she wouldn't want to ask Scott to drive her because of our birthdays. She'd ask her best friend to go with her. But yesterday her friend's ex-husband, father of her children, died as a complication of a massive stroke. So it looks like Scott will go the ex-husband's out of town wake later today, leave town tomorrow (our 20th anniversary) to go to the out of state wake, stay for the funeral (on his birthday), and then come home the day after.

The one good thing is that we DIDN'T have any set plans for celebrating. We'd decided not to do a party this year and instead take a vacation without the kids along. There's been a history of major chaos happening oun our birthdays (including several untimely deaths) so we'd decided to postpone the trip for a few weeks until the weather was a bit nicer and everyone had a chance to have their crisis before we left. A few weeks ago when we were making our plans we literally said, "Maybe we should wait until after someone dies before we make the reservations."

Since Scott will either be traveling or getting ready to travel tonight, I'm thinking of getting a pizza for dinner with the kids and just watching TV and pretending my birthday is next week.

I'm so sorry that your special ocassions have been disrupted by such sad events... maybe this week end , you two can do something special together... Life dosen't always happen the way we want... but you did have a birthday, and you will have an anniverary (which one?)... and they can be celebrated at a later time and mean just as much...
