Just Had My Van Towed
Wow, I'm really having a terrible vacation so far! First my dog got hit the day before my vacation started, then my husband had the flu for a few days and then today I had to get my van towed!
We had a 99 Cavalier and a 99 Caravan until the end of February. At that time we replaced the Cavalier with a new to us Ford escape which my husband promptly claimed. Today I had the van warming up in the carport while I buckled the kids into their seats to take Devon to school. Everything seemed fine. I hopped in, shifted into reverse, and we went ... absolutely nowhere. I tried Neutral. Still nowhere. Same with drive. So I called a friend whose husband owns a towing company. He came over and had a heck of a time getting the van out of the carport because the wheels had locked right up.
So now the van is at the shop. The dog's vet bill was less than I thought it would be, but I don't imagine that my luck will hold out this time

Rebecca, have you ticked off Murphy of Murphy's Law fame? If not, why is he out to ruin your vacation? That's awful!

Re: Just Had My Van Towed
I know. I'm tempted to just go back to work and hide!
I keep trying to look at the good side -- the kids and I were still at home when the van broke down so I didn't have them stranded in the middle of nowhere or a van full of groceries or something fun like that! I'm really hoping that it's going to be really expensive to fix and that it will make more sense to replace it. Mike seems to think we should hang onto it until the doors fall off, but he's also not exactly volunteering to drive it.

AT least you weren't at the top of the tallest Bridge in the South....that's where I was last time my car broke...it is probably the transmission and will cost gazillions of Dollars, or Looney's or whatever it is you spend there. Get a new vehicle...and go back to work...geez, Murphy is out to get you.

Re: Just Had My Van Towed
I am guessing too that it sounds like the transmission. At least mine was when it refused to go into gear while we were on vacation in the mountains. Glad you didn't get stranded!
Have fun shopping for a new one. There are some really great deals out there, I hear.

Re: Just Had My Van Towed
Oh yeah.. that's the bright side.. there are some SUPER deals to be had.. I even saw one today that would make your payments for three months if you lost your job and if you still couldn't make them after that, they would take the car back with no downside to you... crazy deals!
Sorry it happened though.. vacations are supposed to be fun and relaxing.. not stressful and frustrating.

Yep, soundlike murphy is pissed at you.
which is good for me, since he usually on me like white on rice.
Did you come into a small amount of money lately? thats what happens to me. I get just a tiny bit ahead (300.00 one month, water heater that was 1 year 2 weeks old, flooded cost me 430.00 --- 200.00 ahead one month, AC that was 25 months old quit working. Cost me 275.00... The list goes on and on. like the time I had a FULL check in the bank extra. BR then got Pnumonia in the middle of July. Lost 10 days work. LOL)
I am sorry. But your right, it could be worse. Although not by a whole lot.
((so sorry!!)))) You need to throw salt over your left shoulder, turn around 4 times and spit, open a bunch of knives and then lay them around, going back and closing them yourself.
Do something to ward off murphy. LOL

Re: Just Had My Van Towed
You know, now that you mention it, Mike's bonus came in just as I was starting my vacation. We were going to throw that on the loan for the new truck so we'd be ahead on that, but then we had to pay the bill for the dog's hospitalization and now this... that must be what's going on -- itmust be the curse of chelle!
Re: Just Had My Van Towed
Salt works, make sure you turn clockwise, and spit real good!

Oh no! Were you still on the road at the time? I was just so glad that I hadn't gotten anywhere when my van quit!

nah its not too bad... i should have seen it coming. i've had the car for 11 years this month, it was my first car. its a 90 toyota corolla with like 333,000 miles on it, so i would say i got my $800 of it that i paid for it. but i'm still having a hard time letting it die
