Fifth Disease SuCKS!!
Okay, ALL last week Bow had a 102+ fever. ALL night. every night. He was miserable. clingy, wouldnt get still, flipping and flopping, wanting to nurse, not wanting to nurse. Sore throat.
Then on WEn. I took him to my moms. I HAD to go to town. She couldnt do anything with him. SO, I came back home, got him, took him TO the dr. and his ears were red, close to an infection. and his throat was AWFUL.
Now in the meantime and week before last Rayley had a slight fever a few days. But felt okay too. Just tired easily.
THEN she got a rash. IMEDIATLY I said. Well, its fifth Disease. Looks like shit, but nothing you can do.
ANyway, Bows fever wasnt staying down, and he was just miserable, so I fiqured it wasnt FD and took him in. THey gave him an antibiotic. 200.00 plus the deisel. GRRRRR.
Of course his fever broke ON the way to town. One more night of being clingy, but no more fever. Today we went outside. HE was out in the 80* heat for about 5 minutes. Now he is red as a beat, from head to toe.
I was right the first time. IT WAS FD. He had just ran the fever a little longer than usual. AND since it had broken on its OWN before we got to the DR, he was already on the upswing.
I am SOOO pissed that I spent well over 200.00 for something that I have went through BEFORE.
When the other kids got it. Brett got it from school, brought it home to Matt and Rayley and she was a baby, I took them all in. They just said viral and charged me the 400.00 for 3 kids. THEN a week later I am back with this awful rash that I couldnt imagine what it was. 400.00 more dollars, 300.00 in meds and the FD diagnosis. well I was feaking out. (the word Disease is NOT condusive to a calm mother) looked it up on the net. there are NO meds for it!! GGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRR BUT that was a thousand dollar mistake. ON my part. THis time I should have KNOWN better damnit!
and even though he is no longer contagious, you feel bad taking them out in public like this. they look like they are a walking contaminate.
EVEN when the DR asked me "so how is Rayley feeling?" and I told him she was fine, but had FD so she was rashy, he just nodded and continued to write out the scripts!!

Re: Fifth Disease SuCKS!!
That sucks Chelle, it does look far worse than it is, I feel for you. Hope everyone else avoids it this time around.

Re: Fifth Disease SuCKS!!
Mine never had it. It sucks that you spent all that for nothing, though. I swear, medical care is insane. I was telling Scott that my kidney Dr. always just asks for an x-ray, not the cat scan, because he says they're just as easy to see if you're practiced at it. But if you go to the ER, they automatically give you the cat scan. Well the x-ray is $100, the cat scan is $1000, plus they always give you 2. So that's $1800 in unnecessary tests. That was the bulk of my last ER visit. If it happens again, I'm refusing the scan and making them do an X-ray instead.
Re: Fifth Disease SuCKS!!
Aw, cut them some slack, Karen. They're just maximizing the number of cat scans they do so they can make the next payment on their machine.

Mine have all had it, nothing you can do really. Be glad you took him in though, and caught the ears/throat thing, THAT could have gotten alot worse.
