Bragging a bit...
Because I'm so proud of myself... Today is day 6 since I quit smoking! And finally the cravings/irritability/tension seem to be letting up. This has been sooo hard and it's a constant battle to not go pick up a pack of cigarettes BUT it is going to be worth it when I can say with certainty that I'm not a smoker!

I'm so happy for you. That is a huge deal! You'll feel so much better as time goes by, and your family will thank you for it!
Re: Bragging a bit...
Great job! My dh keeps trying to quit, but can't yet. He has cut down quite a bit though so that's a start.

Re: Bragging a bit...
When the ManBeast quit he joined an online supprt group. Man I thought I lost him to the computer forever at first, but after a couple of months he did not need them as much and slowed down with their help. He went cold turkey and never touched a cigarette again. We are nearing three years now, and he swore he would never ever quit.
It's not always easy, but we like to joke when we went for a trip to Switzerland a year after quitting that it is amazing how much money you can save. Of course cigarettes in Canada are a wee bit more $$$ than in the States, but when you take it all into consideration you quality of life will greatly increase.
I'm, proud of you no matter what happens cause at least you are trying!

Yeah! That's great (I'm at 8 weeks now) I promise it gets better as time goes by.
Re: Bragging a bit...
W O O H O O ... the best thing you could do for yourself. And yes, it's damned hard to do. I know, I was there. I quit 10 years ago... and I have to honestly say, there are times... when just one... but know too, that just one would put an end to the quitting.
Wouldn't want to go thru that again. And when I quit, I joined some web site (my early days of computer chatting) and connected with a gal who was also quitting. We helped one another, but it took her 10 years to finally quit She finaly quit last summer.
But she and I, complete strangers at the time, became close friends, and have since visited back and forth to each other's homes. She is in WI and I was in MI and now KY... we are like sisters.
Way off the subject of YOU and the accomplishment you've made. Wake each morning and say to yourself "I'm special, I love myself, and I won't smoke any more."
Best of everything to you!

Re: Bragging a bit...
I am doing pretty well, it's gone better than I thought. There are moments where I fight myself over one last cigarette but I know if I do that it's 8 weeks down the drain. We never smoked in the house so winter wasn't to bad, outside all day yesterday I kept catching myself reaching in my pocket.... just to find it empty and say oh yeah I quit. My husband didn't think I could do it- I am obviously far more stubborn than he thinks, lol. He on the other hand MR I can quit anytime, hasn't been doing so well.
Re: Bragging a bit...
Do you have any advice? I would really like to help my dh quit.

Re: Bragging a bit...
I am at 3 weeks and counting, and I will confess that my saving grace has been the new prescription Chantix. You take it and continue to smoke for two weeks, then the urge gradually fades. By the end of the two weeks I was supposed to still smoke, it became more of a "Do I HAVE to go have one??" than anything. I really like it, although to be fair, there is a warning out that if you have been clinically depressed in the past, there is a chance that it could recur. Apart from that and some mild side-effects that I didn't have personally, I think it's gotten great reviews. I know I love it!

Re: Bragging a bit...
I'm taking that too. It's rough on my stomach but I have no other complaints. The dr gave me the inhaler thingy too along with gum to help but I haven't used either the Chantix is enough. My biggest compliant is that I have a hard time remembering to take it.
Re: Bragging a bit...
I just went cold turkey. I actually bought commit lozenges to use because I found them on deep discount at a store going out of business BUT I tried one and it burned the area of my mouth it was touching, burned my throat, and made my stomach turn. After that one, I decided I would rather just try it on my own.
