Re: we made the news
I saw Bridge City on PBS after the storm, I distinctly remember the pretty pitbull on someone kitchen counter, and they showed all the dead animals strewn all over lawns and a few houses up close.
Re: we made the news
Are they rebuilding anything in town yet? How about you, when does your house start?
Re: we made the news
SOme people are fixing their houses and moving back into them, a few are fixing and selling. Some, ALOT really are selling as is, basically a gutted house.
Onbly about a thrid are staying.....sad, but some just cannot deal with it, or they are afraid it will happen again. Dh and I have discussed that possibility, and if it happens we will take our insurance money and run like hell. Move North of I-10, maybe next door to Chelle, LOL.
We should start construction this week, Permits are being issued on Monday, WOHOOO. They said average time is 90-150 days for Turn-key.
We will demolish our house as soon as the insurance settles with us, before Christmas most likely. Bayley and I took our frustrations the other day on the windows, we pitched Softballs thru all of them! And then she went after the sheetrock with her bat.....she had a blast.

Re: we made the news
I am so glad that you let her do that. It's so overwhelming to think of all that needs to be done to put things back the way they were. But I'm thankful that you all survived it and that for you at least, you'll be back in a home soon. I wish it had worked out as well for everyone, but I know that the insurance companies will really screw with those who don't know their rights.
Re: we made the news
It was funny actually. She and her friend were tossing balls in the yard. As they went outside I said Be careful, and they said " we know, no windows, cars, or animals" I said" what the hell, toss the balls thru the windows if you want, what difference does it make?" So we did.

Re: we made the news
Yep erin, we might get the 'cannes, but we dont get no cotten picken storm surges!!
Right after the election was over, BR made me write to each and every national station and tell them in part..
"now that the 'news' about who said what about who is over, can you please start to think about the country again. There are still thousands with out homes, jobs or the media attention afforded to those in New Orleans during the kartina debacle. You do remember Ike correct? In that case, can we please visit these areas and make sure they are remembered? We are aware that the story might not look as heart wrenching as 05 did in La, but there are many people still affected who could use the attention the national media spotlight could get them. Or Do you not care since Texans, like they did in 05 a mere month after Katrina hit (does RIta ring a bell?), can and will work to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and do what is right, asking for little and giving much. "
I wrote more, but that was all I had in notepad, I had rewritten that a few times.

Re: we made the news
That does sound like fun! I hope the news exposure helps get things moving along faster too.
