I didn't have much luck in the dog department. In fact it has totally been one of 'those days'I copied this from my blog.

I planned to go to yet another animal shelter to search for a puppy, as I am getting the kids ready I suddenly hear water. Lots and lots of water. A pipe burst in the bathroom, it flooded th bathroom but more importantly it flooded through the hole for the pipes to the basement. Directly over the top of my shelves, the shelves I have to keep everything dry in case of a flood. Shelves that had all my important paperwork and Christmas presents were being stored. I got the water shut off quickly but the damage is done. I salvaged what I could, hoping I'll find more after it dries up a bit.

Since I wont be fixing the pipe, I have no water until hubby gets home, they wouldn't let him leave. So I loaded up the kids drove an hour to the shelter and fell in love with dog. Got denied, they wouldn't let us adopt a dog because my dog hasn't seen a vet in over a year. I do shots myself (and have the paperwork, receipts, vials and video to prove them) and use the rabies clinic that costs 5 bucks compared to paying the vet 50 for the exact same shot and 8- for walking in the door.

It was also implied I do not take proper care of my animals because I had the cat spayed and got her her shots at the lost cost spay neuter clinic that send the animals home that night instead of charging me to leave them in a cage for the night. The clinic is very well known and reputable. They have a set fee, everyone is welcome, low income gets a sliding scale. We aren't low income but saw no reason not to use their services which ran 100- 200 less than other vets in the area. Apparently for using their services instead of a 'real' vet makes me a horrible irresponsible pet owner and unqualified to have a shelter animal. I'm pissed, here I thought I was doing a good thing, giving a home to shelter dog instead of getting one from someone who didn't bother to spay their dog, in turn supporting them. I think freecycle encourages it, I am a member of two and one of the mods banned animal posts, the other refuses. Now it seems I have very little choice Sad

I am so sorry. see this is why I hate SPCA's. They are so nit picky. ANd its their way or the highway. YET they expect YOU to bow down to them, give money to them, and live up to their agenda.

Look in the local paper. Someone has a puppy they want to go to a good home. and you are a great pet owner for doing all of that!! I wish we had those services here.

I cant imagine jumping through all those hoops. Not when they are begging ME to take a dog. (which is what it seems like if you read the papers)

Oh, I'm so sorry! I can't imagine our local shelter turning anyone away. I mean, they know that the pets that don't get adopted will eventuallyl be euthanized, and they are just happy to have someone take them home.

Thats horrible! I agree with chelle, there are lots of pets advertized in the paper that need good homes. You know it's bad experiences like that which put people off from wanting to/being able to adopt...

The shelters around here don't want anyone to actually adopt their animals, they just want cash donations. When I was looking for a dog they denied me because the kids were under 10 and children under 10 mistreat cats and dogs. That was their only reason. I have pictures of both cats sitting on the kids' laps, relaxed and clearly not trying to get away as well as pictures of the kids asleep in their beds with the cats cuddled up against them sound asleep so I'm just not convinced that the kids are that bad with animals. I wound up getting my dog off a Kijiji ad.

Tara, that sounds like a day from Hell. Just when you think you're a step ahead of where you need to be something steps in and craps on all of your hard work.

The shelter deal sucks. If the pup you had picked out doesn't end up finding another family then they can live with themselves at the shelter.

I am in denial about the stuff. If I ever get audited... I'm f****. There were boxes and boxes of craft materials, easily a few hundred dollars worth. That all came from my mom.... it sucks but not the end of the world. The toys I bought at garage sales all summer long for Christmas presents and the leap pad and another new toy are pretty well shot. I have to replace that because I have bought a ton of books for it that I can't take back and she wants it so..... A few other household things. I haven't gone back down since, I should but I don't want to.

As depressing as it is I can't help but be thankful it happened when it did and not 5 minutes later... I can't imagine if it were pouring for 4 or 5 hours. Or it could have been the upstairs bathroom. So in the end I guess it could be worse. Of course I will never leave again without thinking that a dan pipe will burst for no reason what so ever, we weren't near the bathroom. At first I was scared I thought someone was in my shower.

What kind of Leap Pad tara? I have a Leap pad here that was Wynonnas and it still works, there is one Science Book and cartridge I have for it and of course the book that came in it. It still works and is in great condition, though it is used. If your books would work in it and you want it you are more than welcome to it!

The humane society here is all nit picky too, ticks me off. I personally prefer to go to, and support the local No kill shelter.....so...

HERE YA GO! A glorified shelter dog.....I will ship him as soon as you fill out the paperwork@!
Oh yeah,he comes with his cat, she is spayed and he is neutered, but they eat and sleep together and are both housebroken. I won't even charge you, they eat me out of house and home......100lbs a week!

I'm not sure he'd fit in my house but he's cute! No more cats, unless you want Evil in return. Her name fits, she is one evil being and ugly too.

I'm not sure it would be worth it. We have a 1000 deductible and I don't think there was that much damage.

What's with all the evil cats on this earth? We had one named Cujo and I swear he was posessed. He'd go out of his way to sneak up along the top of the couch and then pounce on your whole head, just hanging on and kicking and clawing. DH grew up without cats and this was his first exposure to them. He was like WTH!

MIne is more of an idiot. Luckily she is pretty nice. Cause Bow even though Bow has never seen pro wrassilin, he is practicin to become a good one. And this cat LOVES him. SHe comes back for more. She refuses to leave him. So its not like he finds her to be mean.

But I have had my share of mo-ron phsycotic (sp) cats.
