Not me. I hope she's better, but if not, I hope this means that they went ahead and admitted her to the hospital. I'm nervous, too.
Re: Very Sick...
Maybe she had a doc visit? Let's hope they are helping her.

Re: Very Sick...
I worry about the necrotizing skin disease or Mersa- I have a friend whose symptoms sound just like these and I know what a battle she had to fight. She thought hers was a zit and popped it and by the next morning her arm was huge and she was in the hospital. She was in there a long time and had a variety of surgeries. That's why I hoped she got the help she needs. I am really worried for her.

Re: Very Sick...
I also fear mersa, or any other skin diseases going around. I have been in a month long battle with my health club and the local health department. It's amazing what they overlook. They see mold and slimy tile and bad scum lines and allow it to pass. They see tiles missing in the bottom of a hot tub, and shards from the tile on the bottom, one woman I just found out cut her foot, yet it still has not been fixed. I do think I finally got something going, they turned it over to the environmental division when I complained of the mold growing in the carpet (spot larger than I am tall, tan carpet was black), and me having a form of bronchitis for weeks, they closed the inside pool area for 3 days for detailed cleaning.

Re: Very Sick...
I bet she is on an IV right now, my nephew ended up in the hospital for 3 days on IV antibiotics.
This is very easy to get and painful.
Blessings to her and hugs!!

Re: Very Sick...
Greetings from me... sitting in a hospital bed. YES (rest may be a little graphic, read with caution)
When I got the the DR, we could see that the pus wanted to come out on it's own, so they told me to go straight to the ER, the Dr could do nothing, but the hospital could help.
I went to a differant hospital being I have never been fond of the other one I orignally went to.
They immediatly brought me into urgent care and got the paperwork started to get me admitted.
(please do not mind the spelling errors as my arm is very sore)
they took about 6 blood samples to test my blood count, the white cell count and a few other things. Swabbed me for mrsa and right before they could get a definate room for me, my arm started to ooze. they took a sample of that, got a little more out, but did not want to do more damage, so they bandaged me up and sent me up to a room.
Got me on an IV antibiotic, and i had to wait for the surgeon to come up and tell me if she was going to do anything in the room, or put me on an operating table.
Around 6 pm last night (i only had to wait so long because of when I had last eaten) she came in and deemed it worthy to do right there.
Drugged me up and did her business. they had me talking about when I had my son (see birth stories thread) and other things about him and Tim, to keep my mind off of it. My breathing exercises came in handy, but the numbing meds and my toughness helped me to not be too bad.
I even told the surgeon that at least i was not a puncher.
She had to get rid of some dead tissue, but once i could feel again, i felt so much better.
the surgeon came back this morning and changed the dressing and said that the redness had gone down and i looked so much better.
but the Dr that is to release me, wanted to hold me one more night. he has not gotten any test results back yet and wants to release me with the right antibiotics. I understand.
I dont want to pay $50 for one kind of meds to find out they will not treat what I caught and then pay another $50. My fiance gets the money back from his job, but still, that takes a couple weeks to process.
so, he brought me my laptop so i do not go stir crazy. i wanted to update everyone too.
i will tell you.
I miss my son so much. I only got to see him for an hour today. AN HOUR! I see him everyday all day, and to be cut down to only an hour. and my hunny too! it's so hard.
everyone I know is long distance, so i dont get to call many. SOME of the nurses are nice and chatty but well, i am dreading the midnite shift ones.
last night was painful and i got treated like i was a child and talked down too. if it happens again tonite, i will be taking a stand and asking for a supervisor right away.
last night, i was still hooked up to the IV and because it was hard for them to find a vein in my hand or wrist, they put it in my right elbow. well, the machine that it is hooked up to, requires me to keep that arm straight, otherwise it beeps and needs to be reset. I scratch my nose, BEEP! fix my hair BEEP! mind you, my injury is on my left arm, so moving that well, was so not happening.
well, i actually had them threaten to put my right arm in some sort of holding/splinter device if i did not keep it straight! they did for a minute, until i started to choke on my hosp. gown and could not fix the neckline. I demanded they take it off and refused to let them put it back on. Not once during the day, when the nurses are 125% more busy, did they threaten to do that! No, they laughed and asked if I was annoyed by it. One nurse even showed me what button to push so that I could just stop it on my own, since we knew that it was just because it was sensitive and I am a good patient (though I couldnt do it in front of anyone else but her, I did not want to get her in trouble).
I am off the IV, except when they give me m antibiotics. I am given an oral pain pill (which i took a bit ago, so I am a little... WOOO!) and finally have an appetite back. I am in a semi-private room, but that is okay.
I want to thank everyone for thier concerns. I am not in as much pain anymore. Swelling has gone WAY down and most of the yuckiness is out. I may be going home tommarrow. Well, i need to because after tonite, I have no one to watch my son and my hubby had to return to work. He couldnt get anyone last night, so he took off. He got the neighbors for tonight, but tommarrow, he has to even be at work early, so idk.
well, i am off to find out what i missed out on and will be back to proabbly better explain myself at a later time, tommarrow, when the pain pills have worn off and i am not so yippy and can spell better. lol
*I missed everyone!*

Re: Very Sick...
Oh my, what a couple of days you've had! Hope you will be feeling better asap. Can't wait to find out what they say it was. Keep your stance with those nurses, some just get so busy, or so bored, they forget you are human.

Re: Very Sick...
Missy, if you want you can PM me the phone number at the hospital and I can call you. I have all the long distance I can use for the same monthly price on my phone so it won't cost me anything to call you.
Re: Very Sick...
YEs missy, definatly stand your ground. Night shift nurses are not usually nice. I dont know why. guess cause the admin is never there at night.
My prayers are with you. and I know you must be feeling miserable. And if you want a phone call all you have to do is PM Karen or myself. I dont mind keeping you company for a while.
Get some rest and please keep us updated.

Re: Very Sick...
well, having the lap top is good, I am sitting in a little corner in the room on a comfy recliner, with the cool a/c on me.
Just talked to my son at the neighbor's and he has been well behaved, which I am shocked at. My son used to stay the night at my Mom's when he was first born, but then she started to get sick and couldn't do the overnights as much anymore (she has MS). So he has not been seperated from both Daddy and I overnight since he was... well, it has been 2 years. But they said he has been good. He had just gone potty (glad to know that all my hard work has paid off!) and they were getting settled to watch a movie with him. I think Monsters Inc.
I have so much email to catch up on... my myspace messages have stacked up.. wow... so much to do!
I just talked to Tim and told him that the night nurses have no reason to talk to me like they did last night and if they do so tonite, I WILL be asking for a supervisor. i don't care. I have a right to be treated with some compassion. I am in the hospital for a reason. I feel that people in this profession should have compassion. I understand some are up for hours, but there is no need to treat others like they are idiots or children. I was in MAJOR pain and needed help with getting situated so that I could sleep. It wasnt my fault my veins dont like to be poked at (getting blood work done at 4:30 am??? c'mon) and the only place for the IV was not the best place. But have some understanding. I know you have paperwork and other patients. I am independant and will take care of myself, just tell me what I need to do and I will help. The day nurses LOVE me because of it! They have been busy with lab works and new patients all day today and one apologized because they didnt check on me for 2 hours. She said she thought I was asleep. No, I was just relaxing and watching TV. I am not a demanding person. I will buzz if I need a drink (which I will do soon), or if I need another pain pill (I am doing okay so far. A little sore, but that is to be expected).
If I am here another night though, anyone that wants, I will PM you the number and we will chat. Be nice then to put some voices to the posts (and faces).
I feel alot better though. All that pressure is gone and the only thing I am worried about is when they will let me go home. Tim is getting some overtime and he can not miss out on that. I miss my son so much. He misses me. When he was visiting me earlier I got so many hugs and kisses. But he is a good boy and he went home with Daddy because "Momma needs the doctor". he is such a good boy. The Lord has blessed me with the most wonderful child.

Re: Very Sick...
I'm so glad you're feeling better Missy. And it would be fun to talk to you on the phone! I'll be up a while longer tonight. (I had lots of caffiene today.) Any time you see I'm online and want to talk rather than try to type, just PM me and I'll call you.
Re: Very Sick...
So glad to hear you are feeling better- you had us all so worried. Let us know if they give you a final diagnosis as to what it was. Rest as much as you can and I wouldn't put up with crap in the hospital- there are always some you will have a problem with- but I certainly would not put up with what you did. My prayers and thoughts are with you- may Healing Angels attend you. You will be back home before you know it.

Re: Very Sick...
I got so much sleep last night. I think that will help me in fighting this.
I started to nod off last night, so I put the laptop away and went right down. Only waking to get my antibiotic and the blood pressure done.
Just got woken by the DR and he looked me over and gave me the results.
I need to do some research on it and will always be looking out but looks like I caught that horrific, terrifying bug. MRSA.
BUT, he says that I am fighting it well, and that they will be taking me off the IV antibiotic and putting me on the oral version, plus some pain pills. I can not drive anywhere (had no plans of that anytime soon) and should just rest (had plenty of plans of that). So bear with me while I learn about the bug and what I can do to keep it at bay.
But he wants to send me home. I have to wait for the main DR, but he told me to prepare for a discharge. YAY! I get to go HOME to my son and my hubby!!!!!!!
I am gonna go research a bit more, but will be back later to update everyone. Hopefully what I learn will help prevent anyone else from getting this awful thing.

Thank goodness your body is able to fight the infection. I'll keep praying and you keep resting.
Re: Very Sick...
First of all Lucky - that sounds GROSS! Good for you for making them tackle the mold issues!
Good call MrsChia!
What an ordeal! I can't even imagine to be put through that with a little guy at home. That's the part that would have killed me. Nobody can take care of my kids like I can, and though they weren't mama's boys, they were always more happy and comfortable at home.
I'm so glad to hear that they got you going on the right treatment. Thanks for keeping us updated!

Re: Very Sick...
Talk with someone about keeping it from spreading to others in your home. I think they will tell you you will need to get a product that can kill it and have someone in to clean all surfaces you can so your little one won't get it. I know it is contagious and can live on things like blankets for a long time. I got the info when my friend contracted it and it has nothing to do with dirt- so don't think that.
I know you can buy a soap at Walgreens and elsewhere called Hibiclens that can help kill the bacteria so you can wash hands with that. I think she had to use bleach to clean all the hard surfaces and then wash in the hottest water all the towels and blankets and sheets.
A lot of times Mersa is misdiagnosed as a spider bite or impetigo or cellulitis. I know your story sounded just like my friends - but I am so glad you caught it early and have a good strong immune system.
Just find out what you need to do to keep it from spreading in your home to your family. I wish you the very best. Take care, get lots of rest, take your meds and get well. What Mersa is is a very virulent strain of staph infection that seems resistant to most of our antibiotics. Sounds as if you are fighting if off though- continues good luck.

Missy, I just got back from the beach and from the moment I read your first post I started hyper-ventilating thinking "IT'S MRSA---run don't walk to the ER and demand a culture!!!"
Watch everyone in your home for any little bumps that look like bug bites etc... be viligant about handwashing etc...
This is NOTHING to be ashamed of, MRSA is extremely common. You can pick it up using a shopping cart at the store.
Wash your hands and you son's hands 100xs a day now instead of 10.
((((Missy))) stay safe & informed!
