Paperback Swap Empty Paperback Swap

Post by rikostan Sun May 25, 2008 6:32 pm

Anybody use Paperbackswap?
It's a book trading site. You sign up, post books you want to part with and then find books you want. You do have to pay for shipping, but that usually comes to less than $2.00 a book.
Here is an example. I post 30 books I want to get rid of. Somebody else sees one of my books and decides they want it. I mail the book to them and I get a credit for mailing that book. I can then take that credit and get another book free of charge.
I have been a member for a couple of years and never had an issue at all. I have gotten every book I have requested. It's really worth it if you have a large collection and are still an avid reader.

NOTE: They do affiliate links, but the link I posted is not an affiliate link, it is just a link to the front page of the site.

I have been using Paperbackswap for a while now. I started when my grandmother was alive and I could not keep her in smut historical romances. LOL, She passed last April, and now I use it for me, and I recently got alot of pregnacy/baby books for DD. It is THE PLACE for obscure titles also.

Paperback Swap Empty Re: Paperback Swap

Post by rikostan Mon May 26, 2008 8:54 am

I actually started with bookmooch before Paperback Swap. I listed all my books, but nobody wanted any of the 90 or so I listed. Then I found PS, posted my books and had people grab books left and right for the first couple of months. I got 40 "free" books in a very short period of time.

I don't know if it's because of more users or a better search function, but PS just works better for me.

I use it too. I have mailed out 6 books already, have gotten 3 already and am waiting on 5 more. I just signed up less than a month ago. And I go to the post office to mail, due to not having a printer, and it costs me less than $3 each to do media mail.

LOL, I'm super cheap. I use the library.

Actually, the local library in my home town and in the town my family lives in (an hour away, and I'm over there all the time) are WONDERFUL!!! The staff is so nice. They actually order books for me and my kids if they notice one of our favorite authors has a new book out. They'll call and say, I hope you don't mind but we ordered this for you guys when we saw it and it's in now, do you want us to put it on hold?

Our library is pretty decent too. It is just across the street and down two doors, but we only have 2000 people in our village.... Everything is down two doors.

I usually avoid it, and if I want a library, go to the next town.

Post by Missy Fri Jun 06, 2008 12:31 am

My library is a 5 minute drive, not so bad. They remember me and know that when i walk in to grab the books and movies I have on hold. I used to be in there at least 2 x's a week. But lately, things have picked up and I don't have the time like before (READ: then was winter, this is now nice, get out of the house weather) so I go in every other week now.

I have been on a weather kick lately( bought one of those personal weather stations with all the wireless sensors) and PBS has a wealth of books dealing with weather. I probably saved over $100 in the last few days.

Paperback Swap Empty Re: Paperback Swap

Post by Nyssa Sun Jul 27, 2008 12:05 pm

Paperbackswap was one of the original batch of BzzAgent's FrogPond sites. I can honestly say that it's the one and only Frog site I've ever actually liked and still use.

I've swapped almost 80 books at PBS since joining and have gotten some really hard to find and out of print titles. It's saved me a ton of money and gotten rid of a bunch of books that I bought ages ago that I no longer am enthralled with.

No decent public library around these parts, so I have to depend on my own resources to fuel my reading. It's a shame too, because when I lived in the Midwest I depended on my libraries and used them constantly.

Oh, and if a book you mail or one mailed to you disappears in the postal book-eater, PBS will credit you back with your book credit with no hassles. I wish brick-and-mortar stores were as easy to deal with.

If only the rest of the FrogPond's sites were as useful!

Post by Sweet Tea Sat Dec 06, 2008 11:37 am

I have been using PBS for quite a while now.....it has a lot of features that I like. I also use www.frugalreader.com. Same idea but it does NOT work on a FIFO method for exchanging books. You can select the condition of the book you are requesting and from which member you want to request the book.

If you want to sign up for Frugal Reader you could reference my name on the site during your enrollment and I will get credits when you list your books! My name on that site is "tgbouldin".

For PBS, you can just click this link.
Tammy's Link

I hope it is okay to put this on the board. If not, please feel free to delete it!!! I love you

Can you believe it? I finally signed up for this! Put up some books that I had set aside for a garage sale - you know, the one that never happens!

I ordered 2 books that were on my Amazon Wish List.
