A beautiful day Empty A beautiful day

Post by thebigscott Mon Mar 08, 2010 4:16 pm

Today's weather is just perfect. In fact, I'm keeping this post short so I can go outside and enjoy it. The kids are playing on the swings instead of making a mess inside or watching TV, and I'm finally getting the yard cleaned up. It's been so cold and wet that I haven't done a thing in ages. We were getting a real 'white trash' look going there for a while. But I've got the porch cleaned off and ready to scrub, the walk swept, and most of the trash out of the yard. My dogs always manage to bring in junk from somewhere and we usually pick it up right away, but no way am I going out in the mud and the cold to pick up scraps of McDonald's bags and chewed up bits of plastic. I'm hoping we get it all looking nice and respectable again before the rain sets in later in the week. I'd like to get out some grass seed too. Wish me luck!

We've had 5 gorgeous days in a row here. I can see grass in large portions of the yard so I celebrated by picking up 2 bags of dog doo. Bring it on, doggies, I'm ready for you again! And further melt this week should expose more yard so I can go out for another expedition.

I didn't take it the wrong way! I actually love getting that done, because in the back of my mind I just keep thinking about it. I was definitely in the mood today. It's like ironing - I love having an empty laundry basket, so I really feel like I've accomplished something when I've finished it.

I know what you mean, Lori. I hate cleaning, but I love the feeling I get when I can see a difference because of my work.

We got a lot done in the yard. Sadly, there's still quite a bit to do. We had a wet fall and winter and a bunch of our grass is just dead. Between the dogs, the ground getting too swampy to grow, and us not keeping on top of the raking like we should have the yard just died. So tonight I went out and bought rakes. Two grown up sized ones and two kid sized ones. I'm hoping we can rake all the dead grass, dead leaves, twigs, etc. out of the yard tomorrow afternoon and then put out seed before the rain sets in later in the week. We'll never have the perfect yard because of pets and kids and us being lazy. But I'd like to think that with a little effort we can have something half-way decent.

I need to get some grass seed so I can get it down as soon as the snow goes. We are seeing spots of grass here and there but t here is still quite a bit of snow to melt. Everything is mud, mud, mud Sad Can't wait to get out there and clean up the yard and start planting. Was 45 today, almost teeshirt weather so it shouldn't be too much longer.

45 and sunny feels so great at this time of the year. I came inside and turned the heat way down yesterday. I'm not sure if it was just that I was overheated or if it was a hot flash, but if it bothers anyone there'll be a thermostat war.
