I am sure everyone has heard and seen on the news
My friends Mom lives in Haiti, and she has no idea if she is OK, but she is an American working I think in the Embassy there, so she should find out soon, on top of that her husband was deployed to Haiti this afternoon. basically got his orders, and was on a plane within 4 hours....He is National Guard, and they sent 400 from tx so far.

They just said they got 10 confirmed dead in the embassy and I think they got a few out.

Lots of prayers for your friend and her family. Its an awful situation. I cant begin to imagine, all I can say is may God be with them all.

She heard from someone who knows her Mom, and says her Mom is injured, not seriously, and will be OK. She should be back in the US in a week or so. She is in a hospital in the Dominican Republic, with a leg injury.

Glad to hear she's ok. Sounds like there's going to be a lot of casualties from this one...

I agree, she hasn't spoken to her yet, and does not think she was actually in a building. Something about falling glass. It sounds like she has some cuts, and got banged around a bit, but is planning to be back here withn a week or so. They evidently had a coworker bring them to the Hospital, it;s around a 300 mile trip......

I hope she has a full recovery. I hate watching the natural disaster coverage on the news. I always wish there was more I could do to help.

I hate it too, Karen. I especially don't like when they bring in the rescue dogs. there are always some happy endings, but there are more likely many many more heartbreaks to come. And I'm always afraid of what I'll see if I'm watching the coverage, and this might be silly, but I feel sorry for the dogs and the job they have to do. They're so perceptive to human suffering.

I read an article about the dogs where it said that the trainers will stage rescues with happy endings. Someone will crawl into the rubble to let the dogs find them. They make sure that the dogs get to do a live rescue periodically so that they don't get depressed.

Earthquake in Haiti Empty Re: Earthquake in Haiti

I heard something heartbreaking on the Today show this morning. Matt Lauer came on and said that with all the confusion happening in and around the quake site, they had just announced earlier that a couple waiting to hear about a loved one had received the good news that he or she was safe. He siad he was saddened to say that that information had been a mistake and that the people they were looking for were still unaccounted for.

Sad
