No Water! Empty No Water!

Post by aurora04 Mon Apr 27, 2009 5:11 am

Something happened to our pump/well/whatever on Saturday and we have been without water since. A plumber friend of FIL's, came over Saturday to look, and after being here for awhile, said it was the pump. The pump was only 2-3 years old and it stopped working. Luckily it was still covered by warranty, so DH was able to exchange it yesterday for a brand new one. FIL and DH's uncle (who is an electrician) came over yesterday afternoon to work on it. Neither one of them know anything about wells or pumps since they are both on a water system with their cities/towns. DH wanted his uncle out to make sure the electrical part was fine and we actually had power right from the pump all the to the house. They stopped at 8:30 because they just couldn't figure it out! They had it running for about 5 minutes and it stopped. FIL's plumber friend is coming over this afternoon to try to fix it. I am so hoping that I have water when I get home from work today!

Times like this I wish my father didn't work away! My parents are on a well, and whenever they have had problems with their pumps, my father would fix them. The last time we had a problem with the well, my father was out here in the freezing cold and snow trying to fix it. He has seen many different problems over the years, so he usually can find a solution. He will be home tomorrow I believe, but I really don't want to wait until tomorrow for water. I so want a shower! Luckily I had washed my hair Saturday morning, so that is still fine today, I just had to boil was some water to wash up. My mother is watching Zach today (DH had to work backshift last night on no sleep), so she is going to take me to work, and Ceilidh to my in-laws so my MIL can bath, dress, and feed her then take her to preschool. Having no water sure complicates things! I don't want to complain too much, because I know it could be worse, and people have been without water for much longer then this.

Oh gosh! So sorry, I hope they get it back on for you today. It is awful to be without water, I don't have to worry too much, we are on city water. But we have been without when a line breaks, and it isn't fun. Thank goodness that doesn't happen often.

I've been without water and it is certainly the worst. We can make do without electricity but water is a huge deal.

I hate being without water. It's not just the showers, it's that cooking is so much harder, too! I hope they get it soon. No Water! 820607

Being without water is way worse than being without heat. I hope your FIL's friend can get the pump going for you again this afternoon.

Sometimes we all take for granted water, heat, and electricity. Living rural, I too have suffered the no pump/no water/no power scenario. There have been times I have melted snow for water. It is not fun. Hope everything is fixed and up and running for you soon, Aurora.

They are working on it now. They figured out the problem, so now it's just a matter of doing it. There was a wire that was shot. They are now re-wiring it all, so hopefully I will have water in the next hour or so.

We finally got water last night around 8:30! They couldn't figure it out. We had water, but not a lot of pressure, so they fixed that problem, but then we kept losing water for about 5 minutes then it would come back. They were all stumped as to why it was happening. They started fiddling around with something else, and got it to work.

We still can't drink the water since they put bleach in it to disinfect anything that might have got in it while they were working on it. I didn't think I would be so happy to flush a toilet (without having to pour water into the bowl) or wash dishes. LOL

Now to just get my washer fixed. That started leaking on Saturday. That I think will require a brand new washer. From what people are telling me, once a washer starts leaking, it's time to get a new one. Plus it is at least 10 years old.
