It jumped out right in front of him. There was oncoming traffic so he couldn't even swerve. Anyhow, it's dead, Caly is torn up because she hates it when anything dies, and there's a shitload of damage to the van. But no one was hurt, except the deer, so it's not all bad. We'll find out later on in the week how much the damage will cost us. It's going to be expensive, though. There was a LOT of damage.

No. There was no way to get it in the van and the lights are out on Scott's truck. But it's out of season anyway and there's a huge fine if they catch you.

It's only liability so insurance won't help at all. Scott has a friend who does some amazing body work and he will probably cut us a deal.

I'm sorry Sad at least no one was hurt. All kinds of accidents with people hitting deer and moose up here, more moose then deer though. A moose can really do some serious damage and still get up and walk away sometimes.. It's too bad about the deer but better a dead deer than a dead human... I am very, very glad that your family is ok...

Good that no one was injured. We get a lot of deer and moose up north, you have to be so cautious driving as like you say they leap right out in front of you. We get a lot of cows too as they are free range from May to end of September. They are heathens - you cannot move those beasts!

I'm glad no one was hurt! Hopefully you can get can a good deal having the van fixed. I am always worried about that on my road. We actually have deer that run across our driveway when we come home at night, so we're not even safe there until we get to the end of our driveway and stop.

OH Karen, I am so sorry about your van! Glad he is okay. and that sucks about not getting the dear!

I still think that since the state will charge you if you kill one illegal (cause its their deer) they should help to fix your vehicle when you hit one (if it was MY cow I'd have to... ) ROFLMAO!

BUT, I am pretty sure that if you call a game warden around here adn ask to have the deer they will let you. during season they make you tag it. sometimes, ifits a mean warden. LOL

Up here if someone hits a moose, deer, or bear they have first choice over whether they want it or not. If they do, then they have to find a way to haul it off, if they don't then they can leave it up to the game warden to do whatever he wants with it.

For a while in KY it was actually illegal to take a deer you hit. Even in season. THey seemed to think that we were such idiots that people would just decide to hunt them with cars. Wait... maybe people around here are that stupid. I've met a few who would do that, LOL.

OH I know a few who have done that... LOL
But it wasnt like they hunted legally anyway! ROLFMAO!

I fiqure its just right.. I mean look at your car, the least you should get is a little 'free' meat.. LOL

Usually if you are caught with a deer illegally here they will take it to the old folks home, or a shelter or something. (or so they say... I am bettin that very few game wardens ever NEED meat! LOL )

But alot of deer are just left on the side of the raod. and that breaks my heart. Theres alot of meat there. LOL

My mom had a buck charge her car when I was a teenager. The thing was huge, but when my dad and I went back to get it we realized it wasn't worth the effort. Every bone in it's body was broken. I still have to laugh when I think about that night. My mom came home thinking that my dad would be mad about her hitting the deer and wrecking the car, but my dad was more upset that she didn't even check to see if there was any meat to be salvaged! I don't know if it's legal here or not to take the deer after you hit it, but the cop sitting at our kitchen table was a bit disappointed not to at least get a steak out of it!
