Alive....sort of Empty Alive....sort of

Post by edbson Mon Sep 22, 2008 9:16 am

We are ok , don't have a house.....well we do but it is coated in several inches of lovely swamp mud. What we could save, we have, and it is not much. Just a few dishes, and keepsakes. We spoke to our Ins. Adjuster yesterday, and apparently we did NOT have a flood, we had a hurricane, so my insurance is not going to cover the 4-5 feet of saltwater that was in my house. A flood is evidently only rainwater. ( how fast can I lawyer up???)

Kids are OK, staying at MIL's in Houston. Kristin did not lose alot, she only got water in her yard, her next door neighbor had 3 feet of water in his house.......kinda odd. BUT all of Xander's stuff is OK, thank god. We finaly got in there yesterday.

The funny thing is, tey actually tried to turn on the power to our house yesterday.........not a good idea.

We will make it, we are staying at DH's Cousins house, she is out of town for a few weeks.

Anyway, thanks for the thoughts and prayers, and everything really. We will survive, but starting from scratch is hard......

Oh man I hope you get the insurance worked out. I can't imagine how stressful that must be. I'm glad Xander's things survived, and how is he by the way?

Erin, what sizes do you guys wear? I know that my kids are growing out of their summer stuff and they won't fit in it next year. You'll have summer weather for a while yet, right? We're moving into fall and won't be needing shorts at all in a month. So do Things 1 and 2 need some of Zoe's stuff? And what about you and DH? Scott and I have clothes that are in good shape that we just don't ever wear. You know... liked it in the store, but not so much now.

GIRL!! damn it! good luck with the insurance company! I hate them. They are such bastards.

Get your FEMA money. I know its hard to have to do, but belive me, you should get it, all the deadbeats will.

I know exactly how you feel. When we lost our house we were not insured, and its very hard. Please let me know what I can do. Please.

Noone else is doing the money thing this time. that I know of. they all lost so much during Katrina when those idiots were buying big screens and lap dances..

call humphry. I hate the bastard (he 'built' a pavilion here with his name on it and they raised OUR taxes to pay for it....) But he is good.

and just what the hell do they think a surge is?? OMFG. I am so pissed for you. I cant even imagine. That is the biggest bunch of bullshit I have every heard.

HEre is things I did when my house flooded. GET a tape recorder. Record EVERYTHING you and the adjuster say. They waffle ALOT. get a spiral. write down EVERY time you talk to them. ask for anything, get turned down, and main points that you recorded.

This is the only way that I got my house fixed. It didnt help when they droped me. BUT it would now. there have been some major changes in the laws.

Insurance is such a racket. I mean, really, it's a legalized racket.

Erin, I would love to help out, but I'm not sure how to even start assessing your needs. It would be great if you could post sizes, wants, needs, as well as the stores you have access to locally to repurchase items. Gift cards fit everyone, right? I haven't had to ask for help, but I know it's hard. Please let us help!

Thanks guys, we actually have clothes, we evacuated with most of our summer stuff. Right now I cannot even begin to tink of all the stuff we will have to repurchase. I keep thinking " I have one of those at home", then I remember, NO I don't.

It is a huge pita, but we will recover....eventually.

Im so glad you are safe and so sorry you are having to deal with the insurance stuff! How they can even think to say it wasn't a flood is astounding.

As soon as you can, please DO post what things you need and want. I too have tons of stuff just sitting waiting for a home that needs it and would be happy to send whatever I can.

I can't imagine starting over, but I'm glad to hear you are all fine. Things can be replaced, you have the most important things, the rest is just PITA to restore. My thoughts are with you.

I used to work in the insurance field and was thisclose to being an agent, until the guy I worked for showed me his true colors, and I didn't want to rip people off and lie to them like that. And that would have been the only way I could have made mad moola. Forget that. I have a heart.

I am so sorry that you are dealing with all that crap from the insurance company. Like chelle said, document everything and just keep calling. I wish you the best of luck with it all.

When you get a chance, inventory what you will need, and I am sure that all of us will bunch together and get it for you. Or at least what we can. This is one big family, and we are all there for each other.

I keep the pay it forward mentality, and I know that karma is always there. I may not have much, but if there is something that I do not need or use that someone else will get a joy from, it is theirs.
