So, will I be Grandma, Grammy? NANA? MawMaw?

My friend let her Grandkids decide....and they call her Lady. So I am not taking any chances....LOL
The girlies call me Nanny, or Nannymama....depending on the expense of the toy they want at the moment.

In our family it has depended on what others are already being called.
If you are Nanny to the girls, then I would suggest Nanny for the new baby too. Otherwise it could be too confusing I think.
My sis calls herself Nana and her hubby is Pop. That is because his mother is already Mawmaw to the kids.
My fil was Papa Boo, but my side goes by Grandpa Keith, Grandpa Gary, etc. Most of the woman have done the same, Gramma Paula, Grandma Judy, and Grandma Karen (my parents have been married 3 times each).

We have a Nana and Papa (my parents) and a Gammy (Scott's mom) and I love both of those choices. You may also want to ask what the other set of grandparents want to be called, so you don't end up being Grandma Jones and Grandma Smith. That would be way too formal.

My kids' grandparents are Nana and Grandpops (otherwise known as pop-pops) and Grandma and Papa.

My father in law was dead set on Grandpa, but my oldest daughter had other ideas. He learned to love hearing "papa" instead!

My mom is Meema, it's unique to her and she likes it, also makes it less confusing to differentiate between Grandma M and Grandma S, etc.

just be sure to ask your daughter.

My mother decided on Marmie. which means mother in french. Not only do I hate it, I feel the attention seeking bitch that didnt even raise ME was very rude in having MY children call her mother. no matter what language. And anything I said about it was just an attack on poor little her.

I resisted and refused, then the rest of the family (my grandmother, mostly, and it was a bone of contention till she died) called her that to Brett and Matt and they just picked it up.

My husband also doenst really like meme, which is what my kids call his mom. I dont know why, I dont care. and I have heard worse. Its better than the others. I personally like Grammy, thats what I called mine. Of course I also call my grandfather Honey.

My kids have a pawpaw, and a pops. although sometimes we call him pappy, cause thats what BR has called my dad for years.

But I also like mamaw. I dont like grandmother and grandfather, too formal. Kinda like calling someone mother all the time. to me its a slap in the face. very formal and not at all loving. My husband refuses to allow my kids to call me mother. ALthough my MOTHER does use it to address me to them. Like "go tell your mother you need a drink" Where as the rest of the family uses 'mom' or 'momma'

They are getting old enough now though that they realize the differnce.

My grandmother was grandmere, (grandma in french) so I didn't want to go there. My Mother died 5 years ago, She was Granny, so that one is out too.......I am guessing Dh's Mom will be grandma something or other.

Tim's Mom is Nina- My son just decided to call her that one day. My Mom is Nana-but he will call her Nina too.
Tim's Grandma is gramma. My Mom's Mom is Gigi and my Dad's Mom is Ma- what I have called her my whole life.

My son only has my Dad's Dad for a grandpa, and he is called Da. Both our father's passed before my son was born, so we have yet to touch upon what to call them.

My cousins call my Mom's Mom Sweetie pie though. I don't remember the story behind that.

Oh BTW
No matter what you tell them to call or call yourself...the babies decide themselves.

I'm supposed to be Grammy...oldest one does indeed call me that
Youngest one calls me Grammy, Momma, Big Momma or Gram-Gram,

Hubby Is supposed to be Papa...oldest one calls him Papa or Grandfather
Baby calls him...Papa or PeePa (WTH? PEEE PAWW..just sounds like a hillbilly)

No one has ever referred to him PeePaw, or called me Momma when talking to them.

I'm actively encouraging our kids to call Scott's mom Professer. She was made a full professor about 3 years ago, and our kids love the Harry Potter books, movies, and especially audio books. Jim Dale narrates and does a wonderful job. Hermione's "Professor! Professor!" is always on in the background on long car trips and I keep telling the kids it would be a hoot to do that to my MIL. But no luck, they insist on calling her Gammy.

I used to call my grandmother "granmdma". (didn't have a grandpa) you just don't hear that any more. The cute nick names are nice, my mom is grammy to my kids and my dad is Paw paw. I just like that classic Grandma myself. i want to be called Grandma when it;s my time.
